Role Overview
As a Commodities Derivatives Sales professional, you will be responsible for driving revenue growth by marketing and selling both exchange-listed and over-the-counter (OTC) commodities derivatives products to a wide spectrum of institutional and corporate clients. This role requires not only a strong command of commodities markets and derivative instruments but also the ability to translate market intelligence into actionable sales opportunities. You will act as a trusted advisor to clients, developing tailored trading and hedging solutions that align with their investment strategies, risk appetite, and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client Acquisition & Business Development
- Identify, prospect, and onboard new clients including asset managers, hedge funds, corporates, commodity producers, and institutional investors.
- Develop a structured sales pipeline through proactive networking, industry events, research, and referrals.
- Conduct market scans to pinpoint emerging opportunities, client segments, and cross-selling possibilities.
- Support marketing initiatives and represent KGI Securities in industry forums to enhance market visibility.
2. Client Relationship Management
- Cultivate and maintain long-term relationships with new and existing clients to deepen engagement.
- Understand client objectives, portfolio strategies, and risk tolerance to recommend tailored derivatives solutions.
- Provide continuous client servicing through regular updates, trade ideas, and research insights.
- Act as a trusted partner by offering thought leadership and timely advice during market events or volatility.
3. Sales Execution & Deal Management
- Pitch a range of commodities derivatives products-covering energy, metals, agricultural, and index-linked instruments.
- Structure and execute trades in collaboration with trading desks, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and agreements to secure favorable outcomes for both clients and the firm.
- Monitor client transactions to ensure alignment with internal risk policies and external regulations.
4. Risk & Compliance Oversight
- Partner with risk management and compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory standards (MAS, SGX, and global requirements).
- Proactively identify potential trading risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Educate clients on product risks, hedging mechanisms, and best practices in derivatives usage.
- Maintain thorough documentation for audit, reporting, and compliance purposes.
5. Market Intelligence & Reporting
- Conduct deep market research to identify trading themes, sector developments, and pricing trends.
- Translate research into actionable strategies and innovative product solutions for clients.
- Deliver market briefings and prepare periodic reports for internal management on sales performance, client pipeline, and revenue forecasts.
- Share competitor insights and collaborate with internal stakeholders to refine product offerings and business strategy.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related disciplines (Master's or CFA qualification advantageous).
- Minimum 5 years experience in commodities sales, trading, or financial services with proven track record in revenue generation.
- Strong expertise in derivatives instruments (futures, options, swaps) and practical knowledge of risk management strategies.
- Established network of institutional or corporate commodity clients in Asia.
- Familiarity with SGX products and global commodities exchanges (e.g., CME, ICE, LME).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong business development mindset with ability to generate new client leads.
- Excellent presentation, negotiation, and communication skills-capable of explaining complex derivatives in simple terms.
- Analytical thinker with proven problem-solving ability and commercial acumen.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure trading environment.
- Proficiency in Bloomberg, Reuters, trading platforms, and financial modelling tools.
- Team-oriented with strong collaboration skills across front office, middle office, and risk functions.
