Main Purpose
Generate sustainable and profitable trading performance in bitumen/asphalt (primary) and base oils (secondary) across Asia and Australia, while supporting the regional strategy led by the senior trader and contributing to the scaling of Trafigura's global Specialties platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and manage profitable trades in bitumen/asphalt and base oils across regional and global markets.
- Own and actively manage P&L performance for the relevant portfolio, within the framework set by the senior trader.
- Implement risk management strategies aligned with desk direction and positioning.
- Take ownership of execution and delivery of agreed trading strategies across the regional book.
- Monetize optionality across logistics, freight, grades, blending, and quality differentials.
- Leverage Trafigura's asset base (shipping, storage, blending) to build and optimize trading flows.
- Develop and manage Australia supply flows, including integration with Puma Energy downstream systems, ensuring reliability and margin capture.
- Expand regional footprint by building relationships with suppliers and customers across Asia.
- Work closely with shipping and chartering teams to optimize fleet utilization, co-loading, and freight economics.
- Maintain close coordination with global trading teams to capture cross-regional opportunities.
- Support the Senior Trader in the region in developing and executing trading strategy, including:
- short-term dislocations
- medium-term structured flows
- longer-term supply positioning
Core Focus Areas
Bitumen/ Asphalt
- Execute and scale the regional trading book under the direction of the senior trader.
- Strengthen supply across North Asia.
- Develop structured outlets into Australia, Southeast Asia, and regional deficit markets.
- Integrate flows with Puma Energy systems to enhance downstream value.
Base Oils
- Support arbitrage between Asia and Middle East.
- Develop importer flows and blending economics across Southeast Asia and Australia.
- Optimize sourcing and logistics to enhance competitiveness.
Geographic Scope
- Primary: Asia (North Asia, Southeast Asia) and Australia
- Secondary: Global participation through coordination with Middle East, Geneva and Houston
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Econs.
- 2-4 years of experience operating across physical and derivatives oil markets.
- Extensive understanding and experience working with the Australia market.
- Commercial experience in cross regional collaboration with trading desks in Europe and Asia.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate with customers and manage customer relationships.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
- Commercial - how to construct purchase, sales, business development.
- Good negotiation skills, good at numbers, decision making, relationship building, hedging, communication and analysis.
