Job Description

The Senior Technical Superintendent is responsible for monitoring and controlling the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical operations of assigned fleet vessels. The role ensures that all vessels operate in compliance with international maritime regulations, company standards, and environmental policies, while meeting shipowners performance expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day technical management of assigned vessels to ensure optimal performance and safety standards
  • Ensure vessels comply with all statutory classification, and international maritime regulations
  • Monitor maintenance, repair, and dry-docking activities, ensuring timely execution within approved budgets
  • Control and optimize technical operating costs while maintaining high standards of operational excellence
  • Provide technical guidance and support to vessel crew, particularly on engineering matters
  • Manage and coordinate with shipyards, contractors, and suppliers for repairs and upgrades
  • Ensure strict adherence to environmental regulations and company sustainability policies
  • Prepare technical reports, budgets, and performance evaluations for management and shipowners
  • Support incident investigations and implement corrective/preventive actions

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of sailing experience as Chief Engineer on bulk carriers and/or container vessels (preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of shore-based experience as a Technical Superintendent with a reputable ship management or ship owning company (preferred)
  • Experience managing similar vessel types will be an added advantage

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent
  • Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Chief Engineer or equivalent maritime certification preferred
  • Strong knowledge of vessel technical systems, maintenance practices, and maritime regulations
  • Good understanding of international standards (IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, Class requirements)
  • Proven project management and budgeting skills
  • Excellent organizational and coordination abilities
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Additional Information

  • Position requires occasional travel for vessel inspections and shipyard attendance
  • Candidate must be able to work under pressure and manage multiple vessels/projects simultaneously
