Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

The Senior Quantity Surveyor is responsible for overseeing cost management, tendering, procurement, and post-contract administration for construction projects. The role includes preparing and reviewing cost estimates, evaluating tender documentation, monitoring project costs and cash flow, and providing strategic commercial advice to stakeholders. The Senior Quantity Surveyor collaborates closely with clients, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered in accordance with budgetary targets, contractual obligations, and overall project objectives.

Key Tasks - Measurements and tender documentation

  • Analyse Building Information Modelling (BIM) models to validate cost plans
  • Prepare and edit contract bills of quantities
  • Analyse schedules of rates
  • Draft preliminaries and trade preambles
  • Review technical specifications prepared by consultants
  • Analyse measurements, admeasurements, and re-measurements

Key Tasks - Drive cost planning and control

  • Review cost analyses and reports
  • Review preliminary and detailed cost estimates
  • Analyse cost plans and detailed budgets
  • Evaluate cost-in-use studies and life-cycle costing of building components and installations
  • Review project cash flow forecasts
  • Review cost checking procedures during design development
  • Liaise with stakeholders to recommend alternative designs or construction methods for cost optimisation
  • Review periodic cost reports

Key Tasks - Tendering and procurement strategy

  • Conduct contractor and supplier pre-qualification exercises
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies
  • Review tender documentation for competitive or negotiated tender invitations
  • Evaluate tender submissions from contractors, specialists, and subcontractors

Key Tasks - Post-contract administration

  • Advise on contract payment mechanisms and regimes
  • Analyse and review claims submitted by relevant parties
  • Review valuations and recommend interim payments to contractors, specialists, and subcontractors
  • Assess and price variation claims
  • Review and finalise project accounts
  • Conduct contractual risk assessments
  • Lead project meetings with stakeholders
  • Support the development and implementation of dispute resolution strategies
