About the Role

This is a high-impact managerial role for a commercially sharp, well-networked insurance professional ready to shape the growth agenda of our general insurance business. As Senior Business Development Manager, you will own and drive revenue expansion across both direct commercial accounts and intermediary channels - building the partnerships, teams, and strategies that move the needle.

You will operate as both a strategy setter and a hands-on team player: winning key relationships, and elevating the capability of those around you. If you thrive at the intersection of business development, people leadership, and market intelligence - we would love to hear from you.

What You Will Do

1. Drive Commercial Growth

  • Originate and close new business opportunities across SME and corporate segments, owning the full deal lifecycle from prospecting to execution
  • Develop and implement targeted growth strategies across key commercial lines, continuously refining value propositions based on market intelligence and competitor activity
  • Challenge and align with underwriters on risk evaluation to structure competitive, profitable solutions for clients

2. Expand and Deepen Distribution

  • Build, activate, and grow a high-performing network of intermediaries, affinity partners, and distribution alliances
  • Design and execute channel management strategies tailored to different partner segments, including tiering, and performance frameworks
  • Lead producer recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management to build a selective, professional agent network that delivers sustained productivity

3. Lead and Develop the Team

  • Mentor and coach, a team of business development managers, setting clear targets and driving consistent accountability
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and commercial ambition - where high performance is recognised and talent is actively developed
  • Translate business objectives into structured, measurable action plans and keep execution on track

4. Shape Strategy and Collaborate Cross-Functionally

  • Partner with Underwriting, Product, Actuarial, Marketing, Operations, and IT to deliver integrated commercial solutions
  • Monitor market trends, distribution shifts, and customer needs to keep the business ahead of the curve
  • Drive improvements in customer acquisition, retention, and overall portfolio profitability

5. Ensure Governance and Compliance

  • Uphold regulatory requirements and internal policies across all business activities
  • Maintain rigorous oversight of intermediary conduct and distribution practices

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related discipline
  • PGI and ComGI certifications (mandatory)
  • At least 12 years of business development experience in general insurance, with a demonstrable record of driving profitable growth through partnerships and direct channels
  • At least 5 years in a managerial role, with proven ability to inspire and manage effective sales teams
  • A strong industry network spanning corporate clients, and intermediary ecosystems
  • Deep knowledge of commercial insurance products, risk evaluation, and distribution practices
  • Experienced in managing travel and motor trade specific agencies are preferred
  • Hands-on experience negotiating and closing complex business proposals and contracts
  • Sharp commercial instincts - able to identify client needs and design solutions that create mutual value
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel for business presentations and data-driven decision-making
