Research Officer (Dept of Urology, Early Prostate Cancer Translational Research Programme)
We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, meticulous, and responsible Research Officer to join our translational prostate cancer research team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the FLAME-PC trial and related translational projects, working across the laboratory, clinic, and data domains. The overarching mission is to advance personalized prostate cancer treatment through integrated molecular, imaging, and clinical research.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
. Wet Lab / Translational Research (40%)
o Process, store, and biobank patient-derived samples (tissue, blood, urine) according to trial and biosafety protocols.
o Perform molecular assays (DNA/RNA extraction, sequencing library prep, qPCR), immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry.
o Maintain accurate laboratory records, perform QC, and support development of standardized workflows.
o Coordinate with core facilities and external vendors for advanced molecular/genomic assays.
. Data Science & Coding (40%)
o Support our 3D MRI-pathology fusion project, including image registration, annotation, and validation pipelines.
o Write and maintain scripts (Python/R/Matlab or equivalent) for data processing, visualization, and analysis.
o Assist in integrating molecular, radiological, and pathological datasets into research databases.
o Provide basic bioinformatics support and collaborate with data scientists for advanced analyses.
. Clinical Trial Support (20%)
o Assist our CRC and clinical team with sample logistics, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
o Support IRB/ethics applications and renewals.
o Manage and curate study databases, linking clinical, imaging, and molecular data.
o Contribute to grant applications and manuscripts (literature review, pilot data, preliminary analyses).
o Provide occasional backup support for patient recruitment/follow-up when required.
o Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the PI or study team.
Job Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or related field.
2. Prior laboratory experience in molecular biology, tissue handling, or translational research strongly preferred.
3. Familiarity with coding (Python/R/Matlab) for data processing and visualization experience with medical imaging or bioinformatics advantageous.
4. Exposure to clinical research operations (sample logistics, IRB submissions, regulatory processes) desirable.
5. Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance wet lab, coding, and clinical tasks.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
7. Team player with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate across laboratory, clinical, and computational domains.
