About the role

We are now recruiting for a Principal Advisor, Alumina and By-Products to join a small and exciting team!

With around 8.3Mt pa alumina production our primary focus is to ensure continuous alumina supply to Rio Tinto's aluminium smelters to optimize our books to build and maintain high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction and to build & execute value accretive opportunities.

You will be part of a dedicated and innovative team and will have external and internal exposures being involved in the sales, purchase, swaps, trade, scheduling and technical marketing of alumina in a challenging global role.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager (Bauxite & Alumina), you will be:

  • Developing and maintaining productive relationships with key customers, suppliers, traders & analysts.
  • Rolling assessment of bauxite/alumina/aluminium market activity, potential opportunities and price trends in order to provide advice regarding the alumina market.
  • Working with market analysis team in driving market intelligence to provide commercial insights upon which short-term and long-term sales and trading strategies can be developed.
  • Assisting with TPDD and contract drafting post deal conclusion.
  • Updating on trade flows of alumina - real time loading / discharge monitoring, composite global supply demand picture.
  • Mapping & maintaining alumina freight differentials across various trade routes.
  • Refresh of book intel on key competitors and roll on / off dates of volumes / contracts.
  • Assist with development of trading mandates, sales & purchase mandates and development of risk management toolkit.
  • Market study for NMA and development of the business case (maintain as an opportunistic business or build out further).
  • System mapping of global alumina storage at refineries and smelters with analysis of use, limitations, opportunities to exploit and building of cases/recommendations for additional capacity.
  • ESG works for CO2e for alumina purchases and swap mapping.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline.
  • At least 6 years of commercial experience in commodities.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A self-starter with high levels of motivation and perseverance.
  • Has a track record of successful delivery in partnership with others, within their own team and in the wider business.
  • Built and sustained effective relationships within an international and multi-cultural environment and a matrix organization.

It would also be beneficial if you have:

  • Knowledge of Bauxite & Alumina market, including pricing, competitor products, major customers and key stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of trading, origination, marketing & optimization activities and physical trading strategies.
  • Good understanding of market and credit risk management.
