Planning/Design Engineer (Building Construction)
Responsible for coordinating project planning, construction scheduling, and design management to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The role involves preparing and monitoring work programmes, coordinating drawings and technical submissions, resolving design and site issues, and working closely with consultants, subcontractors, and project teams to support smooth project execution. The engineer also monitors project progress, identifies delays or risks, and implements recovery or mitigation plans to achieve project milestones and operational targets.
Roles &Responsibilities
1. Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop, monitor, and update master construction schedules using tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Prepare detailed work programmes, recovery plans, and short-term schedules.
- Coordinate construction sequences to ensure smooth project execution.
- Track project progress against planned milestones and identify delays proactively.
- Prepare manpower, machinery, and material deployment plans.
2. Design Coordination & Management
- Coordinate architectural, structural, and M&E drawings among consultants, subcontractors, and site teams.
- Review drawings for constructability, discrepancies, and compliance with project requirements.
- Liaise with consultants and authorities on design clarifications and submissions.
- Ensure timely issuance of approved drawings for construction.
- Coordinate BIM models and clash detection exercises.
3. Technical& Engineering Support
- Provide technical solutions to site construction issues.
- Assist project team in design optimization and value engineering proposals.
- Review shop drawings, method statements, and technical submissions.
- Ensure compliance with BCA, URA, SCDF, MOM, and other Singapore authority requirements.
4. Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor project productivity, progress, and critical activities.
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for management and clients.
- Conduct delay analysis and recommend mitigation actions.
- Support project meetings with planning updates and technical presentations.
5.Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal departments.
- Attend site meetings, coordination meetings, and technical discussions.
- Ensure proper communication flow among all project stakeholders.
6. Risk& Cost Control Support
- Identify potential project risks affecting timeline and design implementation.
- Support commercial and project teams in extension of time (EOT) claims.
- Monitor planning impact on project cost and resource utilization.
- Assist in tender planning and construction methodology preparation.
Requirement:
1. Degree holders: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in building construction projects in Singapore.
2. Experience in handling main contractor projects is preferred.
3. Familiar with Singapore construction practices, authority requirements, and project submission processes.
4. Ability to prepare Master programme, Recovery schedule, progress reports
5. Knowledge of construction sequencing and methodology, Design coordination and shop drawing review, progress monitoring, project scheduling.
