Your Role
The
Member of Technical Staff (MTS) – Thin Film Equipment is a senior technical contributor responsible for sustaining, improving, and optimizing thin film deposition processes and equipment in a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring
tool performance, process stability, product quality, yield improvement, and manufacturing readiness for advanced technology nodes.
The MTS partners closely with
Process Integration, Manufacturing, Equipment, Quality, and Technology Development teams to drive
tool qualification, process matching, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. The position requires deep technical expertise in thin film deposition equipment, strong analytical capability, and the ability to execute effective solutions that support fab performance and long-term manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and support thin film equipment performance and process stability in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Lead technical troubleshooting and drive corrective actions to address process excursions, defectivity issues, chamber drift, and yield detractors.
- Support process tuning, chamber matching, recipe optimization, and equipment qualification for advanced thin film processes.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth technology transfer, tool readiness, and process ramp-up.
- Monitor key equipment and process metrics using SPC, DOE, FMEA, FDC(Fault Detection Control) and statistical analysis to drive robust process control and improvement.
- Drive root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions to improve quality, yield, and tool availability.
- Support and improve preventive maintenance, calibration, and tool performance standards in collaboration with equipment teams.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, best-known methods (BKM), qualification reports, and process guidelines.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
- Maintain strong awareness of emerging technologies, equipment capability, and best practices in thin film processing.
Technical Qualifications
- Strong expertise in CVD equipment, including:
- PECVD / SACVD
- related dielectric or functional film deposition technologies
- Expert-level experience with Applied Material Producer and Centura tools, including:
- tool setup and operation
- process tuning
- chamber matching
- equipment qualification
- troubleshooting and process correction
- Hands-on experience in equipment troubleshooting, defect reduction, and process stabilization.
- Strong capability in DOE, SPC, FMEA, FDC(Fault Detection Control), data analysis, and root cause investigation.
- Experience supporting technology transfer from development to manufacturing and driving process readiness.
- Ability to communicate technical findings effectively to stakeholders at different levels.
- Familiarity with fab safety, quality standards, documentation control, and compliance requirements.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in a semiconductor high-volume manufacturing or technology transfer environment.
- Strong background in thin film equipment ownership and process support.
- Proven ability to lead or contribute to cross-functional problem-solving teams.
- Experience in driving improvements in uptime, defectivity, chamber stability, and process capability.
- Track record of technical contribution through innovation, patents (optional), publications (optional), or impactful fab improvements.
- Experience with ISO/fab quality systems, maintenance practices, and operational excellence.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor degree or above in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Typically 10 to 15 years of experience in thin film process or equipment development, preferably in semiconductor manufacturing.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-functional, fast-paced fab environment.
- Strong record of technical ownership, collaboration, and execution excellence.
