Job Description
- Evaluate and draft legal documentation related to international trade arrangements, overseas business projects, and transactions subject to commonlaw frameworks.
- Provide guidance on documentation required for global M&A initiatives, including pretransaction assessments and postexecution obligations.
- Oversee and coordinate disputeresolution processes involving foreign counterparties, including arbitration, litigation, negotiations, and enforcement actions.
- Develop case strategies, manage evidence preparation, and work with external counsel when necessary.
- Build and maintain relationships with international law firms, particularly those specializing in commonlaw jurisdictions, to support both routine and projectbased legal matters.
- Act as the primary liaison for external legal resources across multiple regions.
- Participate in the legal assessment of foreign investment projects, including due diligence, drafting and reviewing transaction documentation, and preparing legal analyses for internal stakeholders.
- Monitor and implement compliance initiatives across different markets, covering areas such as export controls, competition laws, trade regulations, and other crossborder legal requirements.
- Support internal teams in navigating global regulatory frameworks and mitigating compliance risks.
The Successful Applicant
A successful Legal Counsel should have:
- Minimum 3 years of legal practice within reputable organizations or law firms, ideally with exposure to commodity markets or crossborder M&A.
- Degree in Law, International Trade, or related disciplines, with eligibility to practice in a recognized jurisdiction (e.g., UK, US, Singapore, Hong Kong).
- Strong knowledge of international trade rules and crossborder investment structures.
- Handson experience managing both contentious and noncontentious matters involving multiple jurisdictions.
- Comfortable operating in a fastpaced global environment, with openness to periodic international travel.
