Role Overview
The Head of Middle Office will oversee the Private Banking Middle Office function in Singapore, acting as the control tower for operational integrity, credit governance, and risk management. This leader will ensure that the private banking business operates within regulatory frameworks, risk appetite, and head office standards, while supporting front office growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Middle Office Leadership & Operations
- Lead and grow the Middle Office team to provide full operational support to the Private Banking franchise.
- Oversee end-to-end BAU functions including KYC/account opening, name screening, credit application and collateral monitoring, product governance, MIS reporting, and sales performance monitoring.
- Develop, implement, and refine policies, procedures, and workflows to strengthen control and efficiency.
- Ensure alignment between front office, risk, compliance, and back office functions.
2. Credit Oversight & Risk Control
- Oversee credit administration for private banking clients, including facility applications, reviews, and approvals.
- Monitor collateral adequacy, lending exposures, and concentration risks; ensure timely action on margin calls and covenant breaches.
- Provide independent credit and risk assessments to support decision-making and safeguard the bank's capital.
- Act as the bridge between front office business objectives and credit/risk management standards.
3. Governance & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with MAS regulations, internal guidelines, and cross-border requirements.
- Liaise with internal audit, compliance, and regulators on operational and risk-related matters.
- Implement operational risk controls to prevent errors, breaches, or reputational risks.
4. Project & Change Management
- Lead cross-border and cross-departmental projects to support new product launches, system implementations, and process enhancements.
- Serve as project manager for strategic initiatives (e.g., core banking migration, cross-border policy harmonization, technology upgrades).
- Oversee budget and vendor management for Middle Office-related projects.
5. People & Stakeholder Management
- Build and mentor a strong Middle Office team, developing capabilities in credit, operations, and risk support.
- Foster strong working relationships with Front Office, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Head Office teams.
- Promote a culture of risk awareness, accountability, and operational excellence.
Qualifications & Experience
- 15+ years experience in private banking, credit risk management, or corporate banking, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record in setting up or expanding Private Banking Middle Office functions.
- Strong expertise in credit analysis, risk governance, and operational risk control.
- Experience working with regulators (MAS or other Asian jurisdictions) and auditors.
- Strong project management experience, including cross-border and multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- MBA or Master's in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, comfortable engaging senior leaders across Singapore and Taiwan.
- Fluency in Mandarin strongly preferred to manage frequent coordination with HQ.
