Job role: Credit, Political Risks & Surety Insurance Broker (Executive)

Department: Credit, Political Risks & Surety, Howden Singapore

A LEADING GLOBAL INDEPENDENT BROKER

Howden is a specialist commercial insurance broker. Its regional footprint covers Singapore (regional headquarters), Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, and Philippines. It is part of the London-headquartered Howden Broking Group, a leading independent, global broker with offices in 55 countries worldwide.

Credit Specialties: Business Overview

Credit Risk Insurance (CRI) is one of the fastest-growing distribution tools for Financial Institutions, Traders, and Corporates globally. The selected candidate will work at the heart of the financial sector, serving globally recognized clients from our Singapore hub.

Our team operates as a strategic intermediary within the financial ecosystem, enabling liquidity, facilitating global trade, and optimizing capital for our clients. Rather than specializing in a single silo, you will sit across our various products, including Trade Credit, Structured Credit, Political Risk, and Surety. This cross-product exposure ensures you develop a holistic understanding of how credit enhancement and risk mitigation drive large-scale transactions. You will gain unparalleled insight into the mechanisms of international finance, working alongside an experienced regional and global team to solve complex risk distribution considerations for Tier 1 banks and global traders.

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Client Service & Support: Support the senior brokerage team in managing a portfolio of sophisticated global clients, ensuring seamless day-to-day service and account retention.
  • Account Controls: Take a lead role in the administrative and operational controls for Trade Credit accounts, ensuring compliance and precision in policy management.
  • Market Engagement: Assist in building and maintaining relationships with global insurers and financial institution clients to facilitate deal flow. In particular, building strong foundational relationships with local capacity providers in order to understand appetite within the market, is integral.
  • Technical Learning: Develop a deep understanding of our clients portfolio management processes and learn how CRI products are tailored to meet specific capital and risk requirements.
  • Industry Expertise: Learn and understand the regulatory environment for the use of such insurance products, including country regulations, policy wordings, and our legal duties as a broker.
  • Strategic Exposure: Actively participate in client needs assessments and advising on risk transfer solutions as you progress toward more independence.
  • Internal Collaboration: Identify cross-selling opportunities with other departments and contribute to a high-performance, collaborative team culture.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL BE:

  • Early Career or Graduate: Either a recent graduate with a high degree of curiosity in the world of finance, or a professional with 12 years of experience in Trade Credit, Credit Risk Insurance, Banking, or Trade Finance.
  • Macro-Aware: A strong interest in global markets, credit cycles, and the geopolitical landscape. You should be eager to learn how insurance acts as a sophisticated financial instrument.
  • Academically Grounded: A recognized degree in Finance, Economics, Political Science, or a related discipline.
  • Agile & Resilient: Able to manage multiple tasks across different product lines (from Surety to Political Risk) while remaining composed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relationship-Driven: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with Banking Distributors, Credit Officers, and Underwriters.
  • Linguistically Proficient: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential.

YOUR BENEFITS AND SALARY:

  • Commensurate with qualification and experience
  • Working in a collaborative environment with excellent learning opportunities
