Job Description

Job Summary

The Audio Visual Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and support of audio-visual and control systems. The role involves ensuring all AV systems are fully operational, supporting project delivery, and providing technical expertise across design, commissioning, and post-installation support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot AV equipment and system faults, providing effective AV and system solutions to ensure full operational readiness.

  • Perform diagnostic checks on AV systems, including Video Conferencing systems, Control Systems (Crestron, Extron), Biamp audio systems, displays, projectors, and related equipment.

  • Carry out troubleshooting and rectification works for AV systems.

  • Test various types of cables and products before, during, and after installation, including rack assembly and equipment installation.

  • Oversee onsite testing and commissioning of completed projects.

  • Support preventive maintenance activities, setup, and operation of audio and video systems.

  • Maintain, update, and modify programming and control code in installed systems as required.

  • Perform software and firmware upgrades, manage issues, troubleshoot incidents, and identify root causes.

  • Research, design, and implement audio processing modules, including preparation of audio, video, and control system diagrams and engineering design documentation.

  • Participate in site surveys with the sales team when required.

  • Provide user training and system handover support when necessary.

  • Provide technical support to the project engineering team as required.

  • Ensure all technical documentation, reports, and paperwork are completed accurately and on time.

  • Perform any ad-hoc duties related to the position as assigned.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of AV systems, control systems, and signal flow

  • Hands-on experience with Crestron, Extron, Biamp, video conferencing systems, displays, and projectors

  • Ability to read and understand AV schematics, drawings, and system diagrams

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Good communication and customer-facing skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Audio Visual Technology, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Relevant AV manufacturer certifications (Crestron, Extron, Biamp, AMX, Cisco, or similar) are highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, PoE) related to AV systems is an advantage.

  • Valid safety certifications (e.g., work-at-height, electrical safety) are an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 2-5 years of hands-on experience in installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of professional AV systems.

  • Proven experience with Video Conferencing systems, control systems (Crestron / Extron), DSP audio systems (Biamp), displays, projectors, and rack-based AV systems.

  • Experience in testing, commissioning, and preventive maintenance of AV systems.

  • Familiarity with AV cabling standards, signal flow, and cable testing tools.

  • Experience in software/firmware upgrades, system programming updates, and issue management.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and system design documents.

  • Experience working on corporate, education, hospitality, or government AV projects is preferred.

  • Experience in customer support, user training, and onsite technical assistance.
