Develop, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT) in accordance with applicable codes (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME IX, ISO, ABS, DNV).
Provide technical support in selection of welding processes, consumables, and equipment suitable for marine applications (e.g., SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, SAW).
Ensure welding consumables are stored and used as per manufacturer's recommendations and project requirements.
Perform or oversee welding inspections, including visual inspection, NDT, and dimensional checks.
Ensure compliance with shipyard QA/QC plans and ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans).
Review and verify fabrication records, weld maps, and inspection reports for completeness and accuracy.
Maintain detailed welding records and generate reports for internal QA, clients, and classification societies.
Ensure compliance with classification societies such as ABS, DNV, Lloyd's Register, BV, etc.
Participate in internal and external audits related to welding activities and certifications.
Coordinate with production, design, and planning departments to resolve welding-related issues.
Serve as the main point of contact for client representatives and third-party inspectors related to welding QA/QC.
Assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions for welding defects and non-conformities.
Perform any other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Ensure compliance to relevant government regulations and company's quality, safety, health and environmental (QSHE) policies, practices and procedures at all times.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or relevant field of international certification (e.g. AWS-CWI or CSWIP 3.1/3.2 WI).
Minimum 5-7 years experience in welding QA/QC, preferably in a marine shipbuilding environment.
Hands-on knowledge of international welding codes and standards.
Strong knowledge of welding metallurgy, defect analysis, and NDT techniques.
Proficient in interpreting technical drawings, welding symbols, and isometric plans.
