Job Description

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we're looking for talented people who want to help.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The AWS Cloud Logistics team is seeking an experienced and results-driven Transportation Manager to lead the Capacity Management & Planning pillar within our logistics organization. In this role, you will own end-to-end freight forecasting and capacity planning across all transportation modes — air, ocean, and ground — ensuring we maintain optimal carrier and vendor capacity to support AWS's global infrastructure growth. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in transportation and supply chain operations within large multinational organizations, with demonstrated expertise in carrier/vendor capacity management, multi-modal freight forecasting, and data-driven planning and problem resolution. You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and have a proven track record of building scalable processes that balance cost efficiency with operational resilience.

Key job responsibilities

Own end-to-end capacity management and planning across air, ocean, and ground transportation for AWS Cloud Logistics — developing and executing multi-modal freight forecasting models that incorporate demand signals, seasonality, and project pipelines to proactively scale carrier and vendor capacity in line with AWS's infrastructure growth.

Lead carrier and vendor capacity negotiations, allocation planning, and performance management, establishing SLAs and contractual frameworks that optimize cost, reliability, and flexibility — and holding partners accountable through rigorous business reviews (QBRs/MBRs) and data-backed corrective action plans.

Define and drive the KPI framework for forecast accuracy, capacity utilization, cost-per-unit, and on-time performance — diving deep into data to identify root causes, surface actionable insights, and deliver measurable year-over-year improvements in cost efficiency and operational resilience.

Identify, assess, and mitigate capacity risks by monitoring global freight market dynamics, carrier performance trends, and geopolitical factors — owning scenario planning and contingency playbooks that ensure business continuity through peak periods, supply disruptions, and capacity constraints.

Influence cross-functional partners across AWS infrastructure, procurement, finance, and operations to align transportation capacity plans with broader supply chain strategies and budget targets — driving alignment on trade-offs between cost, speed, and risk across competing priorities.

Build scalable, repeatable planning mechanisms by partnering with technology and analytics teams to automate forecasting workflows, develop dashboards, and eliminate manual processes — while raising the bar on analytical rigor and operational excellence within the Capacity Management & Planning pillar.
