Position Overview
The Engineer is responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and instruments, supporting testing activities for various types of electrical cables, coordinating work orders, and ensuring efficient laboratory operations. The role requires technical competency in industrial automation instrumentation, strong organizational skills, and effective communication with internal teams and external customers.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment & Instrument Maintenance
- Oversee maintenance of all laboratory equipment and test instruments.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance history for traceability and audit purposes.
- Repair and servicing of instruments with vendors.
- Apply hands‑on experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of industrial automation instrumentation such as sensors, transmitters, mass flow controllers, and pressure gauges.
Work Order Management & Stakeholder Liaison
- Manage all assigned work orders effectively from initiation to fulfilment by working closely with sales and service teams.
- Liaise with customers, service supervisors, coordinators, and subcontractors on queries, technical issues, job progress, and delivery schedules.
- Ensure timely equipment turnaround and efficient response to equipment breakdowns.
Cable Testing Operations
- Conduct type testing and batch testing for electric cables, power cables, fire‑resistant cables, and flame‑retardant cables.
- Ensure testing is performed in accordance with established test methods, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Propose improvements to test procedures to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
Documentation & Administrative Duties
- Update and maintain complete job records, including incoming dates, start dates, and completion dates.
- Ensure proper filing and traceability of all records related to testing, maintenance, and calibration.
- Prepare clear and comprehensive test reports for all testing activities.
Calibration & Quality Assurance
- Ensure that all laboratory equipment is calibrated according to the planned schedule.
- Maintain accurate calibration records to support audits and maintain laboratory quality standards.
Laboratory Upkeep & Safety
- Ensure cleanliness and orderly arrangement of laboratory spaces, test samples, and equipment.
- Uphold laboratory safety protocols and participate in safety initiatives when required.
- Undertake improvement projects to enhance laboratory efficiency, capability, and workflow.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation Engineering, or related discipline.
- Experience in testing or maintenance of industrial instrumentation and electrical cables is an advantage.
- Knowledge of cable testing methodologies and relevant standards (preferred).
- Strong hands‑on skills in instrumentation repair, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment used in cable testing environments.
- Strong communication and coordination abilities with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Good documentation accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and meet deadlines.
