Role Summary
The IT Colocation Engineer will be stationed full‑time at a client's office, acting as the primary onsite technical representative responsible for supporting colocation infrastructure, IT hardware, and connectivity services.
This role focuses on hands‑on operations, coordination with remote engineering teams and vendors, and ensuring high availability, compliance, and service continuity for client‑hosted IT systems.
Key Responsibilities
Onsite Colocation & Infrastructure Support
- Provide day‑to‑day onsite support for colocated IT infrastructure, including racks, cabinets, servers, network devices, and patching.
- Perform rack‑and‑stack, equipment installation, de‑installation, labeling, and documentation.
- Assist with hardware replacement, upgrades, and diagnostic checks under guidance from remote support teams.
Client‑Embedded Operations
- Act as the first point of contact at client site for infrastructure‑related issues and requests.
- Coordinate access, maintenance windows, and on‑site activities with client stakeholders and building / facility management.
- Represent the company professionally in all client interactions.
Incident & Change Support
- Support incident response activities including:
- Physical checks
- System isolation requests
- Vendor provider coordination
- Assist with change implementation, ensuring approved changes are executed safely and documented accurately.
Monitoring, Documentation & Compliance
- Perform routine checks on environmental conditions (power status, cabling cleanliness, visual alarms).
- Maintain accurate documentation including asset lists, cabling records, site layouts, and incident logs.
- Follow defined procedures related to information security, access control, and client compliance requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of:
- Server hardware
- Network equipment (switches, firewalls, patch panels)Structured cabling (copper & fibre)
- Ability to read basic rack layouts, cable schedules, and network diagrams.
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in:
- IT operationsData centre / colocation support
- Field or onsite IT support
- Experience working onsite at customer premises is a strong advantage
