Technical Superintendent (LNG)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced LNG Technical Superintendent to manage the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of LNG carriers and LNG bunkering vessels.

The role covers vessel performance, maintenance, LNG cargo systems, regulatory compliance, dry-docking and technical budgets. The successful candidate will also support LNG newbuilding projects, commissioning, vessel delivery and post-delivery warranty matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the daily technical performance and operational readiness of assigned LNG vessels.

• Monitor propulsion, machinery, electrical, automation and auxiliary systems.

• Oversee the maintenance and integrity of LNG cargo-containment and handling systems.

• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to shipboard teams.

• Ensure the effective implementation of planned and condition-based maintenance programmes.

• Plan and manage dry-dockings, major repairs, retrofits and technical projects.

• Prepare and control technical budgets, repair costs and vessel operating expenditure.

• Ensure compliance with class, flag, IMO and environmental requirements.

• Coordinate statutory surveys, audits, inspections and the closure of technical findings.

• Investigate machinery failures and LNG-related incidents and implement corrective actions.

• Monitor fuel efficiency, emissions and environmental performance.

• Manage relationships with shipyards, equipment manufacturers, service providers and classification societies.

• Support the selection, training and development of senior engineering personnel.

• Represent the shipowner during LNG newbuilding projects, including design reviews, construction supervision and commissioning.

• Coordinate acceptance tests, sea trials, vessel delivery and post-delivery warranty claims.

• Provide management with regular reports on vessel performance, budgets, risks and project progress.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related discipline.

• Chief Engineer Class 1 Certificate of Competency would be highly advantageous.

• 5 to 10 years of seagoing experience aboard LNG carriers.

• Previous experience as an LNG Chief Engineer or LNG Technical Superintendent is strongly preferred.

• Strong knowledge of LNG cargo systems, boil-off gas management, reliquefaction systems and dual-fuel propulsion.

• Experience with dry-docking, technical budgets and major repair projects.

• LNG newbuilding, commissioning or vessel-delivery experience would be advantageous.

• Good understanding of class, flag, statutory and environmental requirements.

• Strong leadership, technical problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.

• Willingness to travel and attend vessels or shipyards when required.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
