Job Responsibilities
- Perform cost estimate for the assigned discipline, in accordance with the tender/ contract requirement, specifications and timeline.
- Prepare material take off and equipment specifications / datasheets independently.
- Prepare requisition document and ensure completeness of scope and specifications in accordance with tender/ contract and customer requirements.
- Sources quotation from production department, subcontractors and vendors, attend to clarifications promptly to obtain competitive pricing, complete bid evaluation and make recommendation
- Prepare cost breakdowns on price schedule format as specified by tender/ contract leads and/or customers and prepare total cost summary and refine the cost breakdown as required based on tender/ contract and customer requirements.
- Lead negotiation with subcontractors and vendors for the discipline in charged, challenge and resolve subcontractors/ vendors qualifications in meeting tender/ contract and pricing requirements.
- Coordinate with technical and project management team on technical proposal submission and enquiries and ensure any technical gaps are addressed or taken up in the submission.
- Perform cost trends studies to identify potential risks in project design development and to devise guidelines for cost estimates.
- Maintain cost database and information collation for past estimating cases and studies.
- Provide support to project management team for ongoing projects pricing claims/ disputes/ subcontract related to the discipline in charged, and undertake the role of project cost control matters or contract management
- Assist Tender/ Contract Leads for any ad hoc assigned tasks.
Job Requirement
- Degree or Diploma, City & Guild in Shipbuilding, Engineering or equivalent certification or GCE O Level with relevant working experience
- 4 years working experience as estimators in a similar capacity
- Resourceful, cool-minded, excellent leadership and be able to work under stressful conditions
- Knowledge of cost estimates in marine industry, market structure, market changes, subcontractors and suppliers capabilities and prices
- Willing to work late on weekdays, weekends and public holidays should there be urgent tender deadlines to meet
- Willing to travel go overseas to inspect vessel/negotiate tender when necessary
- Need to be technically sound in marine industry work, know the market rate and have negotiation skills
