Senior QA Engineer

Department Overview

The Data Lake house Section provides a foundational platform for Rakuten's Digital Twin vision by integrating and managing large-scale first-party data.

It includes core data products such as Customer DNA (CDNA) and Deep CDNA, which unifyuser data across all Rakuten services.

Position Overview

The Senior QA Engineer will define and oversee the end-to-end testing strategy for Rakuten's core data and AI products. You will lead a team of QA engineers and collaborate closely with product managers, developers, and data engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable releases.

Responsibilities:

- Own the overall QA strategy for Customer DNA and related platforms (Deep CDNA, Marketing Concierge, etc.).

- Establish testing standards and best practices across functional, integration, regression, and performance testing.

- Design and maintain test automation frameworks to ensure efficiency and repeatability.

- Review and refine test plans and test cases derived from business and technical requirements.

- Coordinate test execution and track quality metrics (defect density, coverage, pass rate).

- Collaborate with global development teams (Japan, India, Singapore) to ensure timely and coordinated releases.

- Drive continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) testing processes in collaboration with DevOps.

- Mentor and guide QA engineers, promoting a culture of quality, accountability, and proactive improvement.

- Contribute to risk assessment and release readiness decisions.

Qualifications:

- 6+ years of QA experience, including at least 2 years in a lead or managerial role.

- Proven expertise in test planning, execution, and automation within complex IT or data product environments.

- Experience designing and implementing automation frameworks (e.g.,Selenium, PyTest, Katalon, Cypress, Playwright).

- Hands-on experience in API testing and validation of data pipelines.

- Strong understanding of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Docker) and test integration.

- Solid skills in SQL and Python (or equivalent scripting languages) for data validation and automation.

- Experience defining QA metrics and dashboards for project management and performance tracking.

- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multi-cultural,cross-functional teams.

- Business-level proficiency in English.

- Proficiency in Japanese will be an advantage, as the role involves communication with Japanese-speaking stakeholders.

Good to have:

- Experience in data platform QA, validating large-scale ETL, real-time streaming, or cloud data systems.

- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) components such as BigQuery, Dataflow, and Pub/Sub.

- Knowledge of Data quality governance frameworks and data lineage verification.

- Experience managing distributed QA teams across multiple regions.

- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, fostering technical growth and continuous improvement.
