Job Role

Role Overview

The Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for leading the development, management, and assurance of integrated project schedules across all phases of delivery. This role plays a critical part in driving project outcomes through accurate planning, proactive risk identification, robust progress and delay analysis. Working closely with project leadership, contractors, and client stakeholders, the Senior Planning Engineer ensures alignment between short-term execution and overall schedule objectives, while providing clear, data-driven insights to support decision-making. The position requires strong technical expertise in scheduling (including Primavera P6), a sound understanding of contractual time provisions, and the ability to influence teams to deliver against key milestones in a complex, fast-paced project environment.

Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Proactively develop and manage project trackers and control systems, ensuring full alignment with Primavera P6 schedules and maintaining data integrity.
  • Lead the assessment of project delays and impacts, including preparation of robust Time Impact Analyses (TIA) and scenario evaluations.
  • Prepare and deliver structured project reporting (weekly, monthly, and executive-level), clearly communicating progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to subcontractor coordination and short-term planning meetings, challenging assumptions and verifying readiness to execute planned works.
  • Drive and influence the implementation of short-range planning processes (lookaheads), ensuring continuity and alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Communicate schedule-related information clearly and effectively (verbal, visual, and written) across all stakeholder levels, supporting informed decision-making.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of contractual time-related provisions, ensuring compliance in schedule administration and supporting entitlement assessments.
  • Establish and manage delay registers and structured record-keeping systems to support claims, variations, and project controls governance.
  • Apply a continuous improvement mindset, enhancing planning processes, reporting efficiency, and adoption of innovative tools and methodologies.
  • Demonstrate strategic problem-solving capability, analysing issues from multiple perspectives and developing practical, data-driven solutions.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in planning practices, influencing project teams and promoting accountability across stakeholders.
  • Take full ownership of planning deliverables and project outcomes, ensuring accountability, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required to support project and business objectives.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, CPM techniques, QSRA, EVM, and BIM integration.
  • 8+ years of experience in project planning/scheduling (EPC, construction, or life sciences preferred)
  • Promoting a positive team environment and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are central to the role.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project environment
  • Experience in client-facing reporting and stakeholder management
