Job Description

Senior Network Engineer – ATM Systems

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to support the design, implementation, integration, and delivery of complex network solutions for ATM (Air Traffic Management) systems and projects.

The role combines hands-on network engineering with technical leadership, solution architecture, project coordination, and stakeholder management. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, software integration, deployment, customer service, and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure network solutions are delivered on time, to the required quality and security standards.

Key Responsibilities

Network Engineering & Solution Design

  • Design and implement network solutions for ATM projects and bid activities.
  • Develop and maintain network architecture diagrams, solution designs, cost templates, List of Supply (LOS), Bill of Materials (BOM), and interface specifications.
  • Contribute to Solution Specifications, Detailed Design Documentation, Network Acceptance Test Procedures (NATP), and network integration documentation.
  • Define network equipment configurations and coordinate with hardware deployment and integration teams.
  • Work with Tools Engineering, Customer Service, Site Services, and other technical teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Load, configure, test, validate, and hand over network equipment to Software Integration teams in factory and customer-site environments.
  • Support network and system configuration changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate proactively in Project Design Reviews, technical reviews, and engineering activities.
  • Provide customer training and technical guidance where required.
  • Identify risks at the solution architecture level and recommend alternative, validated solutions.
  • Provide expert-level guidance on network infrastructure, architecture, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards, and methodologies.

Technical Leadership & Team Coordination

In a leadership capacity, support the Work Package Manager by:

  • Developing and maintaining technical objectives, strategies, and roadmaps.
  • Ensuring engineering deliverables, documentation, and technical artefacts are completed according to project schedules and milestones.
  • Contributing to key project milestones, triage activities, and change control boards.
  • Tracking team progress against agreed plans and providing task estimates and forecasts.
  • Identifying technical and project risks and developing appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Communicating priorities, updates, and key project information through regular team meetings.
  • Acting as the primary technical point of contact for the engineering team or identifying the appropriate technical SME when required.
  • Allocating and prioritising technical tasks across the team.
  • Ensuring the quality and compliance of team deliverables, including adherence to configuration management processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a related discipline.
  • Cisco professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent industry certifications are highly preferred.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in senior network engineering or similar technical positions.
  • Experience working on projects involving complex software-centric, real-time, or mission-critical systems.
  • Proven experience in technical leadership and leading small engineering teams.
  • Strong experience designing network infrastructure and network architectures.
  • Experience designing network architectures in accordance with security standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
  • Hands-on experience with a broad range of networking and computer hardware, preferably Cisco technologies.
  • Experience with network configuration, integration, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Scripting/programming experience with Shell, Perl, TCL/TK, or similar scripting technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Experience managing stakeholders with different technical and business objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and international environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, coordination, and motivational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and integrated engineering environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong judgement and ability to make independent technical decisions when required.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in mission-critical or near-real-time environments.
  • Previous experience in Air Traffic Control (ATC), Air Traffic Management (ATM), aviation, transportation, defence, or other safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with large-scale and geographically distributed networked computer systems.
  • Experience working within Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environments.
  • Knowledge of French is an advantage.
  • Experience with enterprise Cisco networking technologies and security infrastructure.
