To lead and manage the design, coordination, installation, testing, and commissioning of Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) systems for tunnel projects (road, rail, metro, or utility tunnels), ensuring compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, project schedule, and budget.
The role ensures that all tunnel M&E systems (ventilation, power, lighting, fire & life safety, SCADA, drainage, etc.) are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with international and local standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Engineering Management
- Lead detailed design review of tunnel M&E systems
- Coordinate with civil, structural and TBM teams to integrate M&E interfaces
- Review shop drawings, method statements and technical submittals
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards
- Manage value engineering and technical risk mitigation
Installation & Construction Oversight
- Supervise site installation of:
- Tunnel ventilation systems
- Fire detection & fire suppression systems
- Lighting & emergency lighting
- Power distribution (MV/LV systems)
- Drainage & pumping systems
- TBM
- Tunneling facilities
- Ensure installation meets quality standards
- Monitor contractor performance and progress
- Resolve technical site issues
Testing & Commissioning
- Develop commissioning plans and procedures
- Witness FAT, SAT, and integrated system testing
- Coordinate integrated testing with civil and operations teams
- Ensure systems meet operational and safety performance criteria
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure M&E works comply with tunnel safety regulations
- Support risk assessments
- Participate in safety audits and inspections
Project Management Support
- Prepare progress reports.
- Assist in schedule planning (Primavera/MS Project).
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Master's degree (preferred but not mandatory)
- 10-15+ years in M&E engineering
- 5+ years specifically in tunnel projects
- Experience in at least one full tunnel project lifecycle (design to commissioning)
- Knowledge of tunnel codes and standards
- Experience with: AutoCAD / Revit
- Understanding of integrated systems testing
