Job Description

Responsibilities

Day-to-day accounting

  • Maintain complete, accurate and timely accounting records for CUL Singapore HQ and assigned affiliated entities in accordance with IFRS/SFRS(I), Group accounting policies and Singapore statutory requirements.
  • Accounts payable: verify and code supplier invoices (vessel/voyage expenses, terminal charges, container-related costs, agency and overheads), match to supporting documents, and prepare payment runs for approval.
  • Accounts receivable: raise customer and agent billings, apply receipts, monitor ageing, follow up on collections, and prepare statements of account.
  • Post daily bank transactions and monitor bank balances for Singapore HQ and assigned entities prepare fund transfer requests and remittance documentation for approval, and follow up with banks and Group HQ finance on collection and transfer status.
  • Check vouchers and supporting documents for completeness, correct coding and approval before posting escalate unusual or significant transactions to the Finance Manager.

Month-end and year-end close

  • Prepare and post journal entries - accruals (port, terminal, charter/slot, agency), prepayments, provisions as determined by the Finance Manager, and reclassifications - with complete supporting workings.
  • Prepare bank, balance sheet, AP, AR and intercompany reconciliations clear reconciling items and escalate aged items.
  • Complete assigned close tasks within the Group close timetable.
  • Prepare draft monthly profit and loss, balance sheet and supporting schedules for Finance Manager review.
  • Prepare the monthly Group reporting pack for assigned entities in the Group template, and intercompany balance confirmations with overseas affiliates.

Shipping revenue and cost accounting

  • Extract actuals and prepare budget-versus-actual schedules to support the budget and forecast exercise.

Compliance and support

  • Prepare GST return workings and audit and tax schedules respond to auditor and tax agent queries with supporting documents.
  • Maintain proper filing and documentation of accounting records and financial information.
  • Comply with internal controls and finance procedures maintain process documentation for own areas support system testing and UAT.
  • Perform other accounting duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline with 4 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in container shipping, liner shipping, logistics or maritime industries.
  • Hands-on experience in AP, AR, bank reconciliation, month-end closing and financial reporting.
  • Experience with intercompany accounting and overseas entities is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with shipping revenue, vessel/voyage costs, terminal charges, container costs and trade-line P&L is preferred.
  • Good knowledge of IFRS and Singapore accounting requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
  • Meticulous, organised and able to work independently.
  • Good communication skills and able to work with overseas offices, Group Finance, Operations and Commercial teams.
