Job Description

The primary responsibility of this role is to act as the Private Equity Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the technology teams:

Business Translation & Solution Definition :

  • Requirements Elicitation: Work directly with Investment Professionals and Finance teams to understand complex PE business processes, including cash flow forecasting, capital call/distribution calculations, waterfall modelling, carried interest, and limited partner (LP) reporting.
  • Solution Guidance: Guide technical teams in designing and implementing solutions (e.g., data models, reporting systems, workflow automation tools) that accurately reflect PE-specific financial logic and regulatory requirements.
  • Domain Expertise & Quality Assurance :
  • PE Domain SME: Serve as the first point of contact for technical teams seeking clarification on PE financial terminology, fund structures, investment metrics (e.g., IRR, TVPI, DPI), and accounting treatments (IFRS/GAAP).
  • Testing and Validation: Lead the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) phase, validating that newly built or enhanced applications and data pipelines correctly process PE financial data and accurately reflect required business outcomes.
  • Process Mapping: Document existing PE workflows, identify system gaps, and propose technology driven process optimizations for greater efficiency and data quality.
  • Cross-Functional Support :
  • Alignment: Ensure that all technology solutions remain aligned with the firms investment strategy, compliance needs, and investor reporting standards.
  • Support Enablement: Work with Application Support teams to train them on the business context of PE systems, enabling faster and more effective resolution of financial data issues.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • PE Understanding (Crucial): Solid, demonstrable working knowledge of the Private Equity investment lifecycle, fund structures, fund accounting principles, and key investment metrics (e.g., IRR, TVPI, DPI).
  • Professional Certification: Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification is highly desirable as it confirms the necessary depth in financial reporting and accounting standards. Certifications such as CFA are also a plus.

Experience

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in a demanding financial domain role, ideally within Private Equity, Fund Administration, Investment Operations, or a similar role requiring deep knowledge of PE financials.
  • Financial Acumen: Solid understanding of financial concepts, valuation techniques (DCF, Multiples), and financial modelling principles, with the ability to articulate the underlying logic to engineers (performing the modelling is NOT the primary task).

Skills & Competencies

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to convey complex financial issues to both technical teams and senior financial stakeholders.
  • Process Mapping: Proven experience in mapping financial business processes (current state and future state) and defining detailed technical requirements.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to build good, trusted relationships with Investment Professionals, Portfolio Management teams, and technology resources.
