Role Overview

Reporting directly to our lead Singapore Partners in our fast-growing PE&I practice, this role offers a unique opportunity to work in Asia's reinsurance hub of Singapore and act on a diverse range of insurance and reinsurance matters across Asia, the Middle East and Africa. You will be at the forefront of handling complex leading edge legal and international reinsurance challenges, finding successful outcomes for our clients and driving the continued growth of our market leading practice.

WK Singapore PE&I Team:
. Advising on high value, specialty lines insurance/reinsurance claims.

. Advising on high value recovery claims, predominantly through international arbitration.

. Advising on risk across several sectors, including power generation, infrastructure development projects and commercial property.

. Providing policy coverage advice on property damage, machinery breakdown, defect exclusions, business interruption, delay in startup/advance loss of profits, war & terrorism and political risk.

. Construction professional indemnity advice.

Key Responsibilities
. Advisory Work: Provide legal advice on property and energy claims, including developing an understanding of laws and regulations in the jurisdiction of the risk (where we will typically not be admitted advise) and how those local laws/regulations operate alongside the English/international common law principles on which the relevant insurance/reinsurance arrangements we advise on are based.

. Drafting: Assist in drafting preliminary legal advice, expert reports, and other related documentation.

. Research: Conduct in-depth legal research on developing areas of English common law (and other common law jurisdictions) to help understand the nuances of local laws in countries where WK does not have an admitted presence.

. Client Liaison: Manage communications between the adjusting team (including loss adjusters and other appointed consultants) and cedant/reinsurer clients, ensuring clear and timely updates on the status, budgets and progress of the matters we advise on.

. International Arbitration: While there will be no litigation or court advocacy, there will be opportunities to engage in international arbitration work.

. Support Senior Lawyers: Collaborate with senior lawyers in conduct of larger claims and/or disputes, contributing to the delivery of strategic solutions.

. Non-contentious Matters: While not a requirement, there is also an opportunity to engage in non-contentious insurance and reinsurance work.

The ideal candidate will have an analytical mindset, strong communication skills and a professional approach to work. You will be expected to engage with clients and teams across multiple jurisdictions while maintaining a patient and proactive approach to work. . Research Skills: A keen ability to conduct detailed and reflective research into international laws, particularly in jurisdictions where we are not currently admitted to practice.

. Attention to Detail: Ability to draft clear, concise and accurate legal advice and reports.

. Pragmatism and Patience: A practical and patient approach to problem-solving, managing client expectations and working with senior lawyers.

. Collaborative: Comfortable working within a team, with a willingness to learn from senior colleagues while contributing actively to the team's success.

. Work Ethic: Strong commitment to delivering high-quality work in a timely and efficient manner, with a focus on attention to detail and precision.
