Job Description

The Community Psychology Hub (CPH) is dedicated to improving people's lives through innovative, quality psychological and research services. We work in active collaboration with partners in the social service and public sector to provide care for persons with vulnerabilities alongside their families in the community. Set up by the Ministry of Social and Family Development in 2015, we are a unit sited within SG Enable Ltd, a registered charity and an Institution of a Public Character.

To provide innovative and quality psychological care to our clients and their families in the community. You will:

  • [Strengthening Families Programme, FAM] Provide specialised psychological services to famillies referred by the courts to the FAM in Singapore

  • [Custody Evaluation Report, CER] Conduct assessments which support decision making for child custody proceedings

Responsibilities

1. Conduct Psychological Assessments

  • Coordinate and conduct formal and informal psychological assessments, including standardised tests e.g., cognitive, co-morbid, mental capacity assessments, under supervision

  • Prepare assessment reports for routine cases

  • Identify gaps in assessment tools in relation to application in local contexts and propose possible contextualisations to supervisors

  • Deliver case presentations during group supervision

    Specific to FAM:

  • Support case worker in providing psychological inputs or professional opinions to case formulation or case planning intervention. This includes actively participating in FAM case conferences

  • Clarify the scope of referral to psychological services ongoing discussion and collaboration with other counsellors in case management

    Specific to CER:

  • Conduct interviews with parents, children and collaterals

  • Conduct observations of parent- child interactions

  • Conduct home visits of parents and/or caregivers to evaluate the home environment

  • All interviews, observations and home visits are to be conducted in a timely manner as per SOPs

  • Assess the best parenting arrangement in the best interest of the children

  • Prepare and submit reports within stipulated timelines for vetting and approval by supervisors

  • Prepare and submit reports to the court in timely manner

2. Deliver Intervention

  • Work in a multi-disciplinary team comprising other professionals such as social workers to co-develop and implement evidence-based assessments and interventions, as well as to conduct home visits when necessary
  • Deliver psychological programmes and services. This may include:

    Specific to FAM:

    • Provide evidence informed intervention (e.g., Family Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to help families, in particular parents with diagnosed or suspected mental health problems, improve their co-parenting relationship, reduce inter-parental conflict, improve parental functioning, and restore ruptured parent-child relationship

    • Case recording of sessions to be done after each session

    • Psychological Intervention Report to be done as necessary (to be vetted and signed off by Community Psychology Hub (CPH) Clinical Supervisor before submission to caseworker or court)

    • Development or running of therapeutic group work

3. Build stakeholder relationships or capacity

  • Provide evidence-based input for program/policy improvements

  • Provide consultation for families, caregivers, and other stakeholders to improve client outcome

4. Uplift professional practice in psychology

  • Assist in the delivery of training (clinical seminars, clinical workshops) for psychologists and/or other professionals in the social service sector

  • Deliver psychology related talks for Social Service Agencies (SSAs) and psychoeducation talks for the community

  • Identify areas of improvement in models of client care and services based on evidence-based practices

  • Perform data collection and analysis to support research e.g., programme evaluation for new initiatives/programs introduced in the SSA/CPH

  • Provide guidance to peers and interns

  • Attain SRP status or its equivalent (within first two years of appointment as Psychologist)

    Specific to FAM:

  • Identify best practice and evidence-informed practice in assessments and therapeutic interventions

  • Modify and adapt these models to our local context /sector, piloting the efficacy of intervention model for research purpose and ongoing implementation of service

  • Continuous improvement and adaptation of these models-of-care/assessment

5. Others

  • Attend and assist with group meetings, chair and/or present at the meetings when necessary

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of SSA/CPH activities as assigned

  • Attend SSA/CPH events, including team bonding activities

  • Prepare and submit reports e.g., monthly KPI tracking as required

  • Carry out any other duties assigned by Reporting Officer or Management

6. Self-development

  • Attend CPH/SSA endorsed training/workshops/seminars to develop relevant knowledge and skills

  • Receive formal supervision from CPH's approved supervisors as part of professional development

  • Commit to reading, learning and researching on evidence informed practices, ethics and guidelines

Requirements

1. Educational qualifications and experience

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in applied psychology (e.g., Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology) from an accredited university. The programme must include a supervised practicum and supervised training in psychological assessments

  • Eligibile for Singapore Psychological Society (SPS) (Full Membership) and Singapore Register of Psychologists (SRP) registration

  • Experience in clinical settings and/or working with/in SSAs will be an advantage

2. Other qualities

  • Effective interpersonal skills, good psychological report writing skills and be able to work in multi-disciplinary team

  • Fluency in local languages and familiarity with the local context will be an advantage
