SBSA is seeking an experienced Programme Director (High Performance Pathway) to architect and lead Singapore's national baseball and softball athlete development pathway - from youth to elite national team levels.
As Programme Director, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving a coherent, sustainable Pathway-to-Elite system. You will ensure a strong talent pipeline that delivers ready athletes to the national teams, while accounting for Singapore's unique context - including academic demands, National Service (NS), and dual-career pathways.
Success in this role is measured by the quality, depth, and readiness of athletes progressing into national squads, not by programme volume.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement a national athlete pathway with clear progression benchmarks, selection standards, and transition points aligned to high-performance goals.
- Develop Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) frameworks tailored to Singapore's realities.
- Oversee talent identification (TID), scouting, and pipeline management across schools, clubs, and competitions.
- Work closely with national coaches to set performance benchmarks, annual plans, and athlete progression KPIs.
- Integrate sports science, medicine, and performance support services (in collaboration with HPSI and partners).
- Align pathway programmes with Singapore's education system, including school competitions, Direct School Admission (DSA), scholarships, and Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) progression.
- Drive coaching standards, capability building, and a consistent high-performance culture across all pathway levels.
- Manage athlete welfare considerations, including continuity during NS, academic cycles, and dual-career support.
- Provide strategic input on high-performance planning, resource allocation, and reporting to the Executive Committee.
- Benchmark against international best practices and adapt them effectively to the local context.
Key Performance Indicators
- Quality and number of athletes successfully progressing into National Teams.
- Depth and readiness of talent pools across age groups.
- High retention of high-potential athletes through critical transition points (school, NS, post-education).
- Establishment and effectiveness of athlete tracking, selection, and review frameworks.
- Clear alignment between pathway programmes and national team performance outcomes.
- Evidence of improved coaching standards and training quality.
Requirements & Competencies - Experience: 10-15 years in high-performance sport, athlete pathway development, or programme leadership roles. Proven success in building or managing structured talent identification and development systems.
- Strong understanding of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and high-performance sport systems.
- Deep appreciation of Singapore's sports ecosystem, including academic pressures, National Service obligations, and socio-cultural factors.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, particularly with coaches, schools, Sport Singapore, HPSI, and other agencies.
- Analytical, structured, and outcome-focused mindset with the ability to balance ambition and practicality.
- Experience within Singapore's sports or education sectors is advantageous.
- Passion for baseball or softball is highly valued.
