Principal Architect, Robotics

Our client is building a robotics fleet platform that enables the safe and reliable operation of heterogeneous robots across complex, real-world environments. The platform underpins how robots are coordinated, monitored and operated at scale.

They are seeking a Principal Architect to take ownership of the core fleet control and mission execution platform. This is a senior technical lead role with responsibility for shaping architecture, setting engineering standards and ensuring the platform scales into production deployments.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on defining and evolving the platform architecture across robot abstraction, mission execution, fleet services, safety mechanisms and observability. The successful candidate will make key architectural decisions, work closely with engineering teams to deliver production-grade systems, and ensure the platform operates reliably under real-world constraints such as unreliable networks and edge compute limitations. The role also involves mentoring engineers, reviewing designs and working with product and deployment teams to translate field requirements into scalable platform capabilities.

Requirements

Candidates should have extensive experience in systems architecture and platform engineering for robotics, autonomous systems or large-scale distributed systems, together with strong software engineering skills in Python, C++ or Java. A proven track record of designing and shipping production-grade systems is expected. Experience with fleet management platforms, multi-robot coordination and robotics middleware such as ROS or ROS2 will be advantageous, as will exposure to safety-critical or public-space deployments.
