We are seeking a skilled Platform Operations Engineer to join on a 1-year contract. The engineer will work with government agencies to support and maintain critical on-premises platforms and infrastructure, ensuring stability, performance, and modernisation of essential IT systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support enterprise infrastructure platforms including compute, storage, virtualisation, and backup solutions.
- Implement platform standards and automation to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Support platform enhancement and infrastructure modernisation initiatives.
- Manage and optimise virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Implement and operate monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
- Perform platform patching, backup, disaster recovery, and high availability measures.
- Provide L2/L3 technical support for incidents and problem resolution.
- Support containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) where required.
- Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices for provisioning and configuration.
- Ensure compliance with security controls, access management, and hardening.
- Collaborate with application teams to support scalability and stability needs.
- Maintain documentation, runbooks, and SOPs for platform operations.
Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related fields.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in infrastructure operations/engineering.
- Strong skills in enterprise virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Experience with storage systems (SAN, NAS) and enterprise backup solutions.
- Proficiency in Linux and Windows Server administration.
- Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef) and scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
- Knowledge of networking concepts and infrastructure monitoring.
- Experience with containerisation and Infrastructure as Code practices.
- Certifications such as VCP, RHCE, Microsoft Certified (Server), or ITIL v4 are an advantage.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
