Job Description

The Peer Support Specialist will be responsible for promoting and delivering recovery-oriented peer support services to persons-in-recovery.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide Peer Support to Clients
  • Engage peers in both in-patient and out-patient settings, by understanding their issues and concerns
  • Provide face-to-face support to peers; inspire hope through positive and intentional self-disclosure, promote empowerment and self-determination in peers referred
  • Recognise different stages of recovery and provide relevant supportive work through reflective listening or identifying resources
  • Introduce and facilitate the completion of IMH Personal Wellness and Recovery booklet for referred peers who are keen
  • Keep a lookout for degenerating symptoms of peers under their support
  • Advocacy
  • Provide inputs (observations, comments or questions) with other team members and recognise psychosocial needs of peers
  • Present and discuss cases during multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
  • Share recovery experiences at MSW / IMH and external public events
  • Network with community partners, statutory boards and hospitals on any peer support related matters, where necessary

Clinical Services: Casework & Programs

  • Peer support cases
  • Receive referrals from MSWs or MDT for peer support needed by peers in the ward
  • Maintain a comprehensive database on relevant case load of peers attended to
  • Perform documentation and administrative duties such as timely recordings of sessions and group notes and upload them into patients database accurately
  • To provide information for simple straight-forward cases, otherwise, to refer to MSW
  • To assist with simple casework tasks information gathering with peer, follow up and joint home visits with MSWs for discharged peers known to PSS, etc.
  • Groupwork

PSS will be involved in planning, facilitating and co-facilitating groups.

    • Programme and Services Support
    • To organise and assist in the delivery and implementation of MSW programmes and services caregiver support services, ward-based events and etc.
    • To participate in service or work improvement projects within the team.
    • Assist in research/group work/road show recruitment
    • To work with MSW trainers to participate in training courses delivered by the department.
    • To participate in events organised by Department
    • Any other work - related duties, as assigned by Supervisor

    Requirements

    Competency

    • Demonstrate good awareness of their mental health condition / recovery and what to do to maintain their wellness
    • Willingness to use their personal/lived experience of mental health challenges and accessing mental health services, to support peers in an appropriate and intentional manner.
    • Computer literate basic skills in Microsoft Office
    • Able to communicate through emails and documentation
    • Able to communicate in English and a second language

    Educational And Professional Requirements

    • Min diploma / degree
    • Certificate in Peer Support (NCSS) is compulsory
