Job Description

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES :-

1. Operations Planning and Strategy

Operations managers develop and implement strategies that help the organization meet its long-term goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement operational strategies, plans, and procedures.
  • Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth.
  • Forecast operational needs and set performance benchmarks.
  • Coordinate with other departments (finance, HR, marketing, etc.) to align goals.
  • Identify areas for process optimization or automation.

2. Process Management & Improvement

They ensure that workflows, systems, and operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • Map and document current processes (e.g., SOPs).
  • Evaluate and improve production or service delivery processes.
  • Implement Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies.
  • Reduce waste and increase efficiency.
  • Introduce KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to monitor performance.

3. Team Management and Leadership

Operations Managers lead diverse teams and ensure they are motivated and productive.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise operational staff.
  • Set goals and monitor team performance.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching.
  • Build a positive workplace culture focused on productivity and safety.
  • Facilitate communication between staff and upper management.

4. Budgeting and Financial Oversight

They ensure that operations stay within budget and generate the best return on investment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage operational budgets.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Approve expenses and manage procurement processes.
  • Collaborate with finance on cash flow, payroll, and asset management.

5. Supply Chain and Inventory Management

Efficient supply chain and stock management is essential to avoid downtime or excess inventory.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage procurement of raw materials and supplies.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels (neither excess nor shortage).
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for timely deliveries.
  • Monitor stock turnover, reorder points, and storage conditions.
  • Use inventory management software and ERP systems.

6. Quality Control and Assurance

Maintaining high product or service quality is a key part of the operations manager's role.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and enforce quality standards.
  • Investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor performance metrics related to quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and certifications (e.g., ISO).

7. Technology & Systems Management

Operations Managers often oversee the selection and use of technology that supports operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities for digital transformation or automation.
  • Work with IT to implement ERP, CRM, or supply chain tools.
  • Train staff on new tools and technologies.
  • Monitor system performance and resolve technical issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with customer service to resolve operational complaints.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality service or product delivery.
  • Communicate with external partners, vendors, and clients.
  • Gather and act on customer feedback.
  • Support marketing or sales with operational insights.

10. Reporting & Performance Monitoring

Regular data analysis helps drive informed decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Track operational metrics (e.g., productivity, cost per unit, downtime).
  • Prepare regular reports for senior management.
  • Analyze trends and make data-driven decisions.
  • Use BI tools or dashboards for real-time monitoring.
  • Set department KPIs and track progress.
