Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Technician with expertise in fiber-optic infrastructure, access point deployment, and data center hardware operations. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with fiber splicing, patching, network connectivity, and the use of advanced fiber testing tools such as OTDR, LSPM, and BERT.
Key Responsibilities
Fiber Network Operations
1) Perform fiber splicing, termination, polishing, and connector installation (LC, SC, MPO/MTP).
2) Carry out fiber patching between servers, switches, storage devices, and cross-connect panels.
3) Install, label, and organize fiber and copper cabling following data center standards.
4) Conduct fiber troubleshooting and signal loss analysis.
5) Test and validate fiber links using OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), LSPM (Light Source & Power Meter), and BERT (Bit Error Rate Test).
6) Document fiber paths, cable routes, and test results accurately.
Access Point (AP) Installation
1) Deploy, configure, and mount wireless access points in data centers or facility environments.
2) Perform site surveys to ensure optimal AP placement and signal coverage.
3) Troubleshoot AP connectivity, PoE issues, and network performance.
Data Center Hardware & Infrastructure
1) Rack, stack, and cable servers, switches, routers, and storage systems.
2) Perform IMACD tasks (Install, Move, Add, Change, Decommission) for data center equipment.
3) Replace failed components (hard drives, power supplies, NICs, memory modules).
4) Perform grounding, power cable installation, and PDU connections.
5) Monitor environmental systems (cooling, power, airflow) and report anomalies.
Network Support
1) Assist with the installation and patching of copper Ethernet cables (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A).
2) Support network teams with switch port activation, labeling, and documentation.
3) Configure basic network settings on devices under supervision.
Operations & Maintenance
1) Follow strict SLA, change management, and ticketing workflows (ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy, etc.).
2) Maintain detailed documentation of rack layouts, cabling maps, and hardware inventories.
3) Perform regular audits of cabling, labeling, and equipment health.
4) Respond to data center outages and participate in incident resolution.
Requirements
1) 25+ years of experience in data center operations or fiber network environments.
2) Strong hands-on experience with fiber splicing, patching, and termination.
3) Proficiency with fiber tools: OTDR, LSPM, BERT, VFL, power meters, fusion splicer.
4) Knowledge of copper cabling standards and structured cabling.
5) Familiarity with wireless access points and PoE infrastructure.
6) Ability to read network diagrams, rack elevations, and fiber/copper schemas.
7) Understanding of basic networking (TCP/IP, switching, VLANs).
8) Experience with IMACD processes and SLA-driven environments.
9) Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
1) Certifications: FOA CFOT, Fiber Optic Technician, BICSI, CCNA, or equivalent.
2) Experience in large-scale data center environments (AWS, Google, Azure, colocation sites).
3) Knowledge of DWDM, MPLS, or optical transport technologies.
