Conduct, review, and validate laboratory tests on patient specimens to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Carry out calibration, verification, and routine preventive maintenance on laboratory analysers and related equipment.
Perform and approve quality control checks for laboratory instruments, including point-of-care testing devices where applicable, and participate in external quality assurance programmes.
Manage laboratory inventory in line with lean management principles.
Retrieve and review relevant medical and laboratory history to support accurate interpretation of current test results.
Ensure all specimen processing activities adhere to established protocols, accreditation standards, and regulatory guidelines.
Provide training, competency evaluations, and supervision for junior staff, including medical technologists and phlebotomists where required.
Assess patient needs, review their medical background, and identify the clinical purpose for blood collection.
Accurately prepare and label specimens for transport to ensure proper tracking and processing.
Oversee the onboarding process for new phlebotomy personnel, including orientation, training, and competency assessments.
Handle specimen reception, data entry, and other general laboratory duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in biomedical science or an equivalent field.
At least two years of experience working in a clinical/hospital laboratory setting.
ASCPi certification is an advantage.
