  • This position is for School of Social Sciences (SOSS).
  • Web, Social and Media Management
    • Stay abreast of developments at SMU and SOSS to ensure that the school's website and social media channels are updated in a timely manner.
    • Work closely with relevant parties to ensure that above-the-line information is accurate and presented in the best positive way.
    • Plan and execute professional communications and promotion in collaboration with relevant colleagues and departments across SMU, e.g., assemble content for media coverage.
    • Develop ways to increase awareness of SOSS, its programmes as well as faculty and students achievements.
  • Undergraduate Recruitment and Club Management
    • Coordinate with SOSS faculty and central offices to organise outreach events and activities such as Openhouse, Discovery Day, Information Sessions, etc.
    • Represent SOSS to speak about the BSocSc programme in a holistic and comprehensive way.
    • Serve as the administrator in-charge of SOSCIETY, the student constituent body of SOSS, and its sub-club SMU Psychology Society, providing advisement on relevant activities and programmes, and processing requests for funding and claims.
    • Collaborate with various student focused offices including the Office of Student Life, Student Success Centre, Student Services Hub, etc, to support the development of student life at SOSS.
  • Alumni Engagement
    • Cultivate a wide network of SOSS undergraduate and postgraduate alumni.
    • Design and implement initiatives that appeal to the shared interests of the school and its alumni.
    • Organise engaging and relevant events that would attract alumniparticipation.
    • Coordinate with central offices, e.g., Office of Alumni Affairs and Office of Advancement to increase SOSS alumni participation in various events and activities, including panel discussions, walkathons, fundraising, etc.
    • Undertake post-event reporting with the aim of sharing information, enhancing participation, improving event attractiveness, process effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Other responsibilities
    • Provide support to deliver events and activities that are organised by the School of Social Sciences, e.g., faculty meetings, focus group discussions and commencement ceremony, etc
    • Undertake other tasks as assigned by the school Dean, Associate Dean (Student Matters and Alumni Affairs) and Assistant Dean (Administration)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or related areas.
  • At least 5years of relevant professional experience in a student-facing role.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office - PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Adobe and one or more design software, e.g., Canva, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop.
  • Prior experience working in a higher-education environment will be advantageous.
  • Fluent in English communicates with clarity and empathy.
  • Creative and adept at developing engaging visualand written marketing content.
  • Comfortable speaking with students and adults from various backgrounds.
  • Able to deliver professional presentations in front of a large audience.
  • Experienced in event planning, project coordination and stakeholder management.
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively both independently and as a team.
  • Possesses initiative and ability to solve problems effectively.
  • Flexible and practical when responding to evolving priorities and schedules.
  • Tenacious in following up with individuals on matters outstanding.
  • Methodical and meticulous in following through on procedures and compliance checks.
