About the role
We are seeking a Legal Counsel to provide practical, business-oriented legal support to EPOS, particularly for its all-in-one point-of-sale (POS) solutions and related technology, payments, and financial services offerings. This role will partner closely with business, HR, finance, operations, and other stakeholders to manage legal and regulatory risks, support commercial activities, and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable laws.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting technology and/or financial services businesses, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Payments or financial services experience is highly regarded.
Key Responsibility
Legal Advisory & Business Support
- Provide clear, timely, and actionable legal advice to internal stakeholders on commercial, operational, and regulatory matters.
- Act as a trusted legal partner to support business initiatives while balancing legal and compliance risks.
- Evaluate and support new products, features, jurisdictions, and business models from a legal and regulatory perspective.
Contract & Commercial Matters
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including:
- Commercial, customer, vendor, partnership, and marketing agreements
- Service agreements, NDAs, and internal templates
- Ensure contracts align with company policies, risk appetite, and business objectives.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Provide legal and regulatory advice on payment services, financial services, acquiring and merchant services, data protection, employment, and corporate matters where applicable.
- Support compliance with applicable laws and regulations across relevant jurisdictions.
- Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on the business.
- Assist in developing, maintaining, and delivering internal compliance policies, processes, and training.
Corporate & Governance
- Support corporate secretarial and governance matters, including filings, resolutions, and internal approvals.
- Assist with board and management-level documentation as required.
Risk Management & Dispute Handling
- Proactively identify, assess, and manage legal and regulatory risks.
- Support dispute resolution, claims, and investigations, and liaise with external counsel when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or Juris Doctor) in Law.
- Qualified to practice law with 6-10 years of post qualification experience gained from reputable international or local law firms and/or Tech or Financial Institutions.
- Strong understanding of contract law, export control, intellectual property, and related legal principles for provision of tech solutions. Relevant experience in e-commerce, payments, finance or technology industry would be viewed favourably.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong Chinese (mandarin) capability for internal communications, document review, research and drafting would be viewed favourably.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail with ability to exercise business judgment to give pragmatic, implementable advice balancing business needs with legal risks.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
