Laboratory Technician (Tobacco), Singapore

The Laboratory Technician plays a key supporting role within the flavor development team, working closely with the Flavorists to create and modify flavor profiles across tobacco and related applications. This role encompasses the end-to-end management of sensory evaluations and smoking trials as well as compilation of findings to inform development decisions. Beyond technical and formulation support, you will be responsible for maintaining the tobacco laboratory to the highest operational standards, coordinating urgent trial samples and managing laboratory waste in an environmentally responsible manner.

The Position:

• Assist the Flavorist in the creation of new flavors and modification of existing flavor profiles including tobacco applications and ensuring formulations meet quality and performance standards
• Manage and coordinate sensory evaluation processes including the preparation and execution of smoking trials and compile comprehensive reports and summaries to document findings and support development decisions
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify, investigate and resolve flavor quality-related issues in a timely and effective manner
• Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the tobacco laboratory, ensuring equipment and facilities are kept in optimal working conditions.
• Coordinate the arrangement and preparation of urgent trial samples to meet business timelines and development requirements
• Manage laboratory waste in a responsible and sustainable manner, adhering to relevant environmental and safety regulations.

The Ideal Candidate:

• ITE, Polytechnic Diploma or Degree in Chemical Process Technology or related discipline
• Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a similar laboratory or technical role
• Knowledge of flavoring ingredients and experience in compounding would be an added advantage
• Familiarity with laboratory equipment, procedures and safety protocols
• Ability to manage sensory evaluations, trial preparations including compounding and technical documentation.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams and stakeholders
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Agile, dedicated and able to deliver results within tight timelines
• Possess strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail
• Comfortable working in a tobacco environment and handling tobacco-related materials and applications
