Laboratory Support Officer - Part Time

Contract Period: 2 years (2026 to 2027) with an option to extend for another year (2028).

Workng hours (Total 21 hours per week):

. Mondays to Thursdays: 8:00am to 12:15pm (morning) or 1:00pm to 5:15pm (afternoon)

. Fridays: 8:00am to 12:00pm (morning) or 1:00pm to 5:00pm (afternoon)

. Lunch: Nil

. Service not required on weekends and gazetted public holidays

. Overtime work shall be paid according to the Ministry of Manpower guidelines.

Scope of Work:

Cleaning and Washing Duties:

. Wash and clean laboratory glassware and apparatus, both manually and using machines

. Perform soaking and washing of lab glassware according to designated room requirements

. Wash and soak glassware/apparatus used for cigarette testing, clean ashtray, cartridge and holder

. Work with diluted acids for soaking/cleaning apparatus/glassware

. Perform general cleaning of centrifuge, sonicator, fume cupboards

Chemical and Solution Preparation:

. Prepare cleaning solutions (detergents) and refill solvent bottles

. Handle and decant solvent from primary container (25kg) into secondary containers

. Prepare bleach dilution solutions according to lab Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

. Prepare and neutralise bleach according to lab Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

Equipment Operation and Material Preparation:

. Operate simple equipment (glassware washer, autoclave, oven, Ultrapure water systems)

. Prepare consumables for autoclaving and laboratory processes

. Assist in preparing materials and containers for case work

. Refill consumables such as pipette tips, gloves

Housekeeping and Waste Management:

. Perform general housekeeping (cleaning and tidying of cupboards, ovens, refrigerators, freezers)

. Sweeping and mopping of floors

. Clear general waste, chemical, biohazard and cytotoxic waste bins

. Handle and sort bulk and heavy laboratory consumables

Administrative and Qualification Requirements:

. Basic administrative duties (monitoring temperatures, dispatching reports, document handling, data entry)

Qualifications, skills and experience:

. Preferably with prior experience in laboratory settings, particularly in the washing and
cleaning of laboratory glassware and apparatus

. Preferably with prior knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and proper handling of laboratory equipment

. Able to read, understand and communicate in basic English to comprehend safety instructions, SOPs, and communicate effectively with laboratory staff

. The role requires the physical ability to stand for extended periods while performing tasks
and handle laboratory items safely and steadily throughout the work shift

. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and

. Singaporeans only are preferred
