Senior Legal Counsel/ Legal Counsel
We are seeking a dynamic and business-savvy Legal Counsel to join our fast-growing team in the commodities trading industry. This role offers a unique opportunity to be a key legal advisor to the business, covering a wide spectrum of responsibilities including contract negotiations, regulatory compliance, risk management, and M&A support across the region, with a strong focus on the Indonesian market.

Key Responsibilities
1. Legal Advisory & Commercial Support
- Provide expert legal counsel across various business functions, especially in commodities trading, supply chain management, and procurement contracts.
- Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide range of contracts, including trading agreements, supply contracts, and joint ventures.
- Act as a key partner to business units, balancing legal risks with commercial objectives.
2. Legal Operations & Compliance Framework
- Develop and maintain the legal departments operational framework, including policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in the commodities space, including trade sanctions, environmental laws, and anti-money laundering (AML) obligations.
3. Risk Management & Strategic Legal Counsel
- Identify and manage legal risks associated with commodity pricing, market volatility, and international trade.
- Provide forward-thinking legal advice to senior management, enabling informed and compliant decision-making.
4. Mergers, Acquisitions & Dispute Resolution
- Support M&A activities, including legal due diligence, contract negotiation, and integration of new entities.
- Oversee dispute resolution matters such as arbitration, regulatory investigations, and manage external legal counsel as needed.
5. Compliance Monitoring & Regulatory Updates
- Establish robust compliance and reporting systems to meet regulatory obligations across jurisdictions, particularly in Indonesia.
- Monitor and interpret legal developments in the trading and commodities sectors, proactively advising on implications for the business.
What Were Looking For
- Bachelors degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university; bar admission preferred.
- At least 3 years of in-house legal experience, preferably in commodities trading or international trade.
- Solid knowledge of supply chain law, trading regulations, and Indonesian legal frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and shape legal strategy in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts and JV agreements.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong business acumen.
- Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia, English, and Chinese to liaise effectively with regional stakeholders and HQ in China.
