About The Role
We are looking for a Head of Legal & Compliance to lead our Legal & Compliance function end to end. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be the company's most senior legal and risk advisor, own the global legal and compliance agenda, and lead a distributed team across Singapore and China. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will set strategy and stay close to the substantive legal and regulatory work.
Responsibilities
Legal
Lead all corporate and commercial legal matters across the group, including corporate governance, entity management, board and shareholder matters, and corporate transactions (investment, M&A, joint ventures).Own the commercial contracting framework: draft, review and negotiate client, vendor, partner and channel agreements, and improve templates, playbooks and approval workflows.Manage intellectual property, disputes, and external counsel across jurisdictions, controlling cost and quality.Provide practical, business-focused legal advice to the CEO, leadership team and business units.Support employment and labour matters as they arise (secondary to corporate and commercial work).
Compliance
Own the group compliance framework, covering data privacy, regulatory compliance, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, and internal policy.Lead the data privacy program across markets, including Singapore PDPA and GDPR, cross-border data transfer arrangements, consent and notification, data breach response, and oversight of the DPO function.Ensure regulatory compliance for the company's payroll, EOR and HR services across the jurisdictions we operate in, including relevant licensing.Build and maintain risk registers, controls, training and monitoring, and report on legal and compliance risk to leadership.
Leadership
Lead, develop and integrate the Legal & Compliance team across Singapore and China.Partner with Sales, Product, Finance, HR and Operations as a trusted advisor who enables the business while managing risk.
Qualifications
Qualified lawyer admitted in a common law jurisdiction (Singapore admission preferred).12+ years of post-qualification experience, with a strong mix of in-house and, ideally, private practice.Proven experience leading a legal and/or compliance function and managing teams, ideally across multiple jurisdictions.Solid data privacy and compliance background; hands-on experience building or running a privacy program (PDPA, GDPR). A privacy certification (e.g. CIPP, CIPM) is an advantage.Industry background in technology, SaaS, HR, payroll or fintech is strongly preferred.Fluent in English and Chinese (able to work directly with teams and stakeholders across Asia), with strong international exposure and the judgement to operate across cultures and legal systems.Commercial, pragmatic and comfortable being both a strategic leader and a hands-on practitioner in a fast-moving environment.
Required Skills
Experience in a high-growth, pre-IPO or listed company environment.Regional (APAC) or global remit in a prior role.Exposure to employment/labour law across markets.
