Job Summary
The Head Carpenter oversees all carpentry works on-site or in the workshop, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards. This role involves supervising a team of carpenters, coordinating with project managers, and ensuring compliance with Singapore's building regulations and workplace safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Supervision & Execution
Lead and supervise carpentry teams on construction or renovation projects
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
Plan daily work schedules and allocate manpower effectively
Ensure timely completion of carpentry tasks according to project timelines
2. Quality Control
Inspect carpentry work to ensure accuracy and high workmanship standards
Ensure proper use of materials and minimize wastage
Resolve on-site technical issues related to carpentry work
3. Team Leadership
Train, mentor, and manage junior carpenters and workers
Enforce discipline, productivity, and teamwork on-site
Conduct toolbox meetings and briefings
4. Workplace Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with Singapore's Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations
Maintain a safe working environment and proper use of PPE
Identify and mitigate potential hazards
5. Coordination & Communication
Liaise with project managers, contractors, designers, and other trades
Coordinate carpentry work with other construction activities
Report progress, delays, and issues to management
6. Tools & Materials Management
Oversee inventory of tools, equipment, and materials
Ensure proper maintenance and safe use of machinery
Coordinate procurement when necessary
Requirements
Proven experience (typically 5-10+ years) in carpentry or woodworking
Prior supervisory or foreman-level experience
Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Good knowledge of carpentry techniques, materials, and finishes
Familiarity with Singapore construction standards and safety regulations
Leadership and team management skills
Able to perform manual tasks and able to work on-site
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant certification in carpentry, construction, or woodworking
Experience in residential, commercial, or interior fit-out projects
Basic communication skills in English (additional languages are a plus)
Working Conditions
Work may be based on construction sites, workshops, or renovation projects
Requires standing for long periods and handling tools/materials
May involve overtime to meet project deadlines
