Job Description

Overview

Our client is a globally minded venture organization that emerged from Japan with a clear purpose: enabling innovators who tackle major societal and environmental issues by translating scientific and engineering advances into real‑world impact.

The platform sits at the intersection of entrepreneurship, academia, industry, and the public sector. By working hand‑in‑hand with startup founders, universities and research centers, large corporations as well as SMEs, and public or quasi‑public bodies, the firm helps breakthrough technologies move from the lab to scalable commercial adoption.

Since its establishment in 2015, the organization has built one of the most recognized deep‑tech investment platforms in the region. It oversees more than US$300 million in capital and has backed over a hundred companies spanning Japan and multiple international markets.

As part of its next stage of growth, the firm is strengthening its Global Fund presence in Singapore. It is looking to bring on an early‑stage career professional with strong intellectual curiosity and the ambition to develop an informed point of view at the cutting edge of technological innovation. The role provides direct exposure to early‑stage venture investing as well as close, on‑the‑ground collaboration with founders as they grow their companies.

The organization operates with an intentionally non‑hierarchical approach, minimizing formal layers and rigid role definitions. Team members are collectively designated as Growth Managers, underscoring a culture of ownership, accountability, and active contribution to both portfolio success and the firm's broader evolution.

While the title is intentionally broad, the substance of the role is firmly rooted in investing. The position offers end‑to‑end involvement across the venture capital workflow-including opportunity origination, thematic research, due diligence, investment analysis, participation in investment committee discussions, and post‑investment value creation.

Responsibilities

You will be involved across the full lifecycle of early‑stage investing and portfolio support, including the following areas:

1. Market Intelligence & Opportunity Origination

  • Lead forward‑looking research to identify investment‑ready themes across sectors such as the low‑carbon economy, next‑generation materials, resilient industrial systems, and neighbouring frontier technologies.

  • Generate proprietary deal flow by systematically analysing markets, building relationships with founders, engaging with key ecosystem players, and assessing inbound proposals.

2. Investment Assessment & Execution Support

  • Contribute across the full investment lifecycle, providing analytical support on technical feasibility, commercial potential, financial robustness, legal considerations, and operational scalability.

  • Evaluate industry dynamics, competitive positioning, revenue models, economic drivers, and routes to market.

  • Collaborate directly with entrepreneurs, customers, and subject‑matter specialists to test assumptions around customer pain points, product differentiation, and adoption pathways.

  • Develop clear, decision‑oriented materials-including investment cases, sector briefs, and committee presentations-to support internal investment decisions.

3. Portfolio Enablement & Strategic Impact

  • Work alongside portfolio leadership teams to address key growth levers, such as market entry strategy, strategic alliances, team build‑out, and capital‑raising readiness.

  • Leverage the firm's extended ecosystem-corporate partners, academic institutions, research organisations, and industry networks-to accelerate commercial and strategic outcomes for portfolio companies.

4. Fund Operations & Platform Building

  • Assist in investor relations and capital formation efforts through research‑driven insights, portfolio reporting, and tailored communications for limited partners.

  • Contribute to cross‑platform initiatives that enhance the firm's profile, connectivity, and long‑term positioning across Southeast Asia and international markets.

Requirements

Must have

  • 1-3 years of experience in a dynamic setting such as corporate finance, management consulting, business development, high‑growth startups, research‑commercialization teams, or technical roles with business exposure.

  • A strong sense of ownership and execution-proactive, dependable, and able to manage multiple workstreams without reliance on heavy process or structure.

  • Excellent analytical and structured‑thinking skills, with the ability to break down complex problems, form clear viewpoints, and support recommendations with data and logic.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Japanese, with the ability to synthesize insights clearly for founders, partners, investors, and other stakeholders.

Nice to Have

  • Academic background or practical exposure in STEM fields, or experience working with science‑ or engineering‑intensive products and technologies.

  • Demonstrated interest in venture capital, innovation ecosystems, or startup building, particularly with exposure to Southeast Asia (e.g., operators, investors, accelerators, research institutions).

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
Appreciate your understanding.
