Role Purpose
The EHS Manager is responsible for
managing and assuring the EHS performance of General Contractors (GCs) through structured onboarding, continuous engagement, on‑site assurance, and performance monitoring.
This role ensures the
consistent and effective implementation of DayOne's EHS Minimum Requirements across projects, while recognizing and influencing
regional, cultural, and organizational differences.
The EHS Manager acts as a
key safety culture influencer, supporting contractors and project teams to continuously improve EHS capability, behavior, and outcomes in diverse global operating environments.
Key Responsibilities
- GC EHS Onboarding & Qualification
- Lead and manage the EHS onboarding and pre‑qualification process for GCs engaged by DayOne.
- Review GC EHS management systems, plans, risk assessments, method statements, and emergency preparedness.
- Assess GC readiness against DayOne EHS Minimum Requirements, project‑specific risks, and local regulatory obligations.
- Identify EHS maturity, capability, or cultural gaps and drive closure prior to site mobilization.
- Ensure onboarding balances global consistency with local applicability and practicality.
- GC Engagement & Relationship Management
- Act as the primary EHS interface between DayOne and the GC.
- Establish effective working relationships with GC leadership, supervisors, and site teams.
- Influence positive EHS behaviors through engagement, coaching, and presence, rather than enforcement alone.
- Promote open reporting, early escalation of concerns, and collaborative problem‑solving.
- Governance of DayOne EHS Minimum Safety Requirements
- Drive understanding and implementation of DayOne's EHS Minimum Safety Requirements across all applicable sites.
- Translate global standards into clear, workable site expectations.
- Challenge ineffective, purely document‑based compliance and focus on control effectiveness in work‑as‑done.
- Ensure high‑risk and high‑energy activities are appropriately identified and controlled.
- Site Engagement & On‑Site Assurance
- Conduct regular site engagements, walkthroughs, and field observations to understand real work conditions.
- Engage respectfully with supervisors and workers across different cultures and organizational structures.
- Validate the effectiveness of EHS controls, particularly for high‑risk work, high energy identification and verification on effectiveness of critical controls.
- Reinforce stop‑work authority as a supported and expected behavior, regardless of local hierarchy norms.
- EHS Audits & Compliance Monitoring
- Plan and conduct EHS audits and inspections aligned with DayOne standards and regulatory requirements.
- Identify systemic issues, recurring conditions, and improvement opportunities across projects and regions.
- Provide clear, factual audit reports and track corrective actions to effective closure.
- Verify that corrective actions address root causes, not just symptoms.
- EHS Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor GC EHS performance using leading and lagging indicators.
- Analyze trends across sites and regions to identify:
- Repeating risk conditions
- Cultural or behavioral patterns
- EHS capability gaps
- Prepare concise EHS performance reports for the EHS Director, highlighting:
- Key risks
- Performance trends
- Priority improvement actions
- Global Culture & Influence Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong awareness of cultural differences in communication, authority, and safety practices.
- Adapt engagement and influencing approaches to different regional and cultural contexts without compromising DayOne's minimum safety expectations.
- Influence EHS outcomes without direct authority, particularly when working with external contractors.
- Promote a consistent global EHS culture aligned with DayOne values, while respecting local customs and working norms.
- Continuous Improvement & Learning
- Support learning‑focused reviews of incidents and near misses, emphasising system and condition‑based factors.
- Share lessons learned and good practices across DayOne projects and regions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of DayOne's GC EHS governance processes, tools, and frameworks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related discipline
