The Strategic Derivatives team focuses on structured financings and derivatives-backed transactions, particularly those secured against listed and unlisted equity stakes, private companies, and fund interests. These transactions require deep fundamental analysis, conservative collateral frameworks, and close coordination with Risk, Legal and Compliance functions.
The role is based in Singapore, which acts as the regional hub for originating, structuring, underwriting and managing strategic derivative and equity-linked financing transactions across Asia, with a particular focus on India and other key growth markets.

Overall Purpose of the Role
The role is responsible for originating, structuring, underwriting and managing complex strategic derivative and financing transactions, with a strong emphasis on collaterals based in India and other key growth markets.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead end-to-end credit assessment, including deep fundamental analysis of underlying companies, sponsors and collateral
- Design and negotiate robust financing and derivative structures that balance client objectives with prudent downside protection
- Proactively manage risk across the life of transactions, with a mandate to minimise credit losses and adverse outcomes
- Act as a strong partner to Risk, Legal, Compliance and Banking teams, ensuring strong governance, documentation and regulatory adherence
- Support franchise growth by delivering solutions that are scalable, repeatable and aligned with firm risk appetite
Key Accountabilities
- Origination, structuring and execution of strategic derivative and structured financing transactions, including equity-linked and collateralised solutions
- Conducting thorough credit and risk analysis of underlying companies, sponsors, cashflows, liquidity, valuation and enforceability
- Structuring transactions with appropriate collateral coverage, covenants, triggers and loss-mitigating protections
- Active management of live positions, including monitoring collateral performance, corporate actions and evolving credit risks
- Partnering closely with Market Risk, Credit Risk, Legal, Compliance and Operations to ensure robust deal execution and lifecycle management
- Supporting client discussions and negotiations on commercial terms, structuring trade-offs and risk mitigants
- Contributing to franchise development, product innovation and enhancement of internal underwriting standards
Stakeholder Management and Leadership
- Act as a senior subject-matter expert within Strategic Derivatives, influencing deal selection, structuring standards and risk appetite
- Lead complex cross-functional deal teams, coordinating inputs across Trading, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Banking and Operations
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members
- Represent the business in internal forums and risk committees as required

- Exercise strong independent judgement in evaluating complex, bespoke financing situations
- Provide expert input into transaction approval processes, including escalation and structuring alternatives

Person Specification
- Deep experience in structured financing and/or strategic derivatives, with demonstrated expertise in credit underwriting
- Strong hands-on experience analysing and financing Indian and other Asia listed and unlisted companies, including promoter-backed situations
- Proven ability to conduct end-to-end credit assessment, including business, financial, valuation, liquidity and enforceability analysis
- Demonstrated track record of structuring downside-protected transactions and actively managing risk through market cycles
- Ability to engage credibly with Credit Risk, Market Risk, Legal and Compliance teams and carry firm consensus on complex trades
- Strong commercial judgement combined with disciplined risk mindset
Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
- Postgraduate degree in Finance, Business, Economics or a related discipline or Professional qualifications such as CA, CFA or equivalent strongly preferred
- Significant prior experience (typically 10+ years) in one or more of: Structured financing, Equity-linked financing / strategic derivatives, Private credit/ special situations, Investment banking or principal investing with strong credit orientation
