Job Description

We are currently looking for a creative, energetic, and experienced Director of Communications. The successful candidate will be a key member of our Corporate and Public Affairs team and will be responsible for the development and management of the Alliance's reputation and its impact on the mission and operations of the organisation.

The successful candidate reports to the Vice President of Corporate and Public Affairs. You will collaborate with peers from departments across the organisation and the Senior Leadership Team to achieve the Alliance's core strategic and aspirational objectives whilst building and enhancing the organisation's profile and reputation among relevant stakeholders. This will include overseeing a team of 10 communications professionals, while supporting the Senior Leadership Team, Alliance members and other key stakeholders, to achieve our collective ambition to end plastic waste in the environment.

The Director of Communications will share responsibility for corporate communications, member communications, editorial production and internal communications for the Alliance, contribute to the development of media and stakeholder engagement strategies and lead in their implementation to uphold the reputation of the Alliance, across multiple channels. This will include working in close collaboration internal clients in the CEO Office, Global Circular Programmes, Growth & Engagement and Impact Finance teams, maintain relationships with the media, influencers, member companies, and partners.

The role will be based in Singapore at the Alliance's headquarters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Global Communications Strategy

  • Overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the Alliance's global communications strategy and budget.
  • Be the point person on media interaction, provide leadership and messaging guidance to the corporate communications team, specifically covering media relations and corporate events. This will include support on building and sustaining relationships with stakeholders, to build a better understanding and awareness of the Alliance's mission and operations.
  • Establish and sharpen the strategic positioning and key messaging for identified stakeholders.
  • Partner with the VP, Growth & Engagement and his team to ensure there is communications support.
  • Ensure continuous revenues and necessary funding are raised and managed appropriately to allow the Alliance continued growth and progress towards achieving its mission.
  • Ensure the value proposition for member companies is properly articulated and enhance the Alliance's reputation.
  • Collaborate with VP, Global Circular Programmes and his team to support how the Alliance's programmes, projects and other initiatives are well-communicated.

Member Relations

  • Maintain close connections with the communications teams of member companies specifically as it relates to collaborative opportunities, messaging, and issues management.

Employee Communications

  • Plan and implement an employee communications programme that promotes engagement and retention.

Integrated Communications

  • Working directly with the VP, Corporate and Public Affairs, oversee the development, integration, and implementation of member communications, policy communications (in collaboration with the Public Affairs team) and public relations activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the organisation.
  • Ensure a consistent approach to communications globally to cover global branded content strategies, campaigns, digital communications, and social media.

Function Leadership

  • Build and lead the Communications Team
  • Execute the Alliance's Communications approach as part of its broader strategy to end plastic waste in the environment
  • Build and maintain relationships with global media
  • Shape corporate messaging that is used with external stakeholders and develop materials that articulate our points of view
  • Manage communications consultants and ensure coordination of their activities in support of strategy execution

EXPERIENCE AND QUALITIES

  • Global reputation leader with 15+ years experience in multinational, commercial, inter-governmental or non-profit organisations, working in a global or regional role
  • A consummate professional with a track record of building and maintaining a best in class communications function and is a strategic and tactical operator.
  • Deep experience in strategic communications, corporate and policy communications, and digital communications, especially in efforts to reach media, opinion leaders and other relevant stakeholders
  • Experience, understanding and interest in purpose, enabling positive social impact, environmental and sustainable development issues
  • Stakeholder management experience in dealing with different stakeholders, Including member companies, service providers, licensees, and media
  • Critical thinker with the ability to engage senior executives, influence peers and motivate team members. Highly collaborative and results-driven leader who can work effectively to drive consensus and progress among a varied stakeholder group with diverse priorities
  • Operational, hands-on leader
  • Experience working across multiple cultures and time-zones
  • Combined corporate and NGO experience and exposure, especially in a leadership role is an advantage
  • A high level of integrity, authenticity, and emotional intelligence to ensure the role is approached with a politically astute radar and operational rigour.
  • Ability to deal with confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • Focused organisational skills with an ability to establish plans, manage a large and diverse workload, multiple assignments, and conflicting priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Compelling written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including exceptional diplomatic, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Analytical and with excellent problem-solving skills, able to resolve issues and challenges in day-to-day business operations and in execution of projects and initiatives.
