Job Description

Job Summary

The Digital Specialist leads the discovery, design, delivery and lifecycle management of digital solutions for teams across the group. The role owns Power BI reporting and dashboards, workflow redesign and automation, and responsible experimentation with company-approved artificial intelligence capabilities.

The role is a hands-on product and delivery role combining business analysis, data visualisation, low-code development, solution governance, testing, change management and benefits tracking. Working closely with business/data owners, the Applications Specialist for source-system interfaces, the Global IT Specialist for platform administration, and the Cybersecurity Specialist for privacy and security controls.

The role will create reusable standards and a transparent digital portfolio, avoiding fragile personal automations, duplicated reports, unmanaged AI use and solutions that cannot be supported after launch.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Demand, Discovery and Portfolio Management

• Run structured discovery with business teams to define the problem, current process, users, data, controls, pain points, desired outcome and measurable baseline.

• Challenge and simplify inefficient processes before automating them, identify policy, role, data-quality or application fixes that may be better than a new tool.

• Maintain a visible digital portfolio and backlog with sponsor, product owner, benefit, risk, effort, dependency, status and lifecycle information.

• Prepare lightweight business cases and recommend prioritization to the Head of IT based on strategic alignment, value, reuse, readiness and total cost of ownership.

Power BI Reports and Dashboards

• Design and maintain Power BI datasets/semantic models, reports and dashboards that use agreed business definitions and appropriate visualization practices.

• Develop with Power Query, DAX, SQL and approved data sources, coordinate stable interfaces and schema changes with the Applications Specialist and data owners.

• Implement access controls, row-level security, workspace governance, endorsement/certification, refresh schedules, usage monitoring and lifecycle management.

• Validate numbers with business/data owners, document lineage and metric definitions, and prevent duplicated or conflicting versions of key reports.

Workflow and Low-Code Automation

• Map current and future workflows, including roles, approvals, exceptions, controls, hand-offs, service levels and manual fallback.

• Build or coordinate approved solutions using Power Automate, Power Apps, Microsoft 365 and other authorized platforms, favoring reusable and supportable patterns.

• Apply environment strategy, naming, ownership, DLP, connector, credential, ALM, test and production-release controls.

• Monitor run success, exceptions, capacity and license consumption, resolve defects and improve automations based on operational evidence.

AI Innovation and Responsible Adoption

• Identify practical AI opportunities and assess data sensitivity, reliability, explainability, human review, intellectual property, legal/regulatory and security risks.

• Prototype only with company-approved AI tools and approved data, document prompts/instructions, test cases, limitations, failure modes and required human controls.

• Coordinate risk assessment and control design with Cybersecurity and relevant business/legal/privacy stakeholders before production use.

• Track quality, adoption, benefit and incidents after launch, stop or redesign solutions whose risk, accuracy or value is unacceptable.

Delivery, Testing, Change and Adoption

• Define requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, solution design, test plans and release evidence appropriate to solution risk.

• Coordinate user acceptance, data validation, security review, training, communications, hypercare and support handover.

• Create user/admin guides and role-based training, establish champions and gather feedback to increase sustainable adoption.

• Measure realized benefit against baseline and recommend scale, improvement, consolidation or retirement.

Governance, Documentation and Support

• Maintain the report catalogue, automation register, AI-use-case register, owners, data lineage, architecture, access, licenses, support and lifecycle records.

• Owner for assigned digital solutions, provide L1 to L3 runbooks and alert/escalation paths to the support vendor where appropriate.

• Support audits, access reviews, incident investigations, continuity testing and remediation for digital solutions.

• Promote standards, reusable components and communities of practice while preventing shadow IT and unsupported personal solutions.

• Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by management to support operational needs.

Qualifications

Education and Professional Background

• Diploma or degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

• At least 4 years of experience delivering BI, workflow, automation or digital transformation solutions in a business environment.

• Evidence of taking solutions from discovery through build, testing, launch, adoption, support and value measurement.

Technical and Delivery Capability

• Strong hands-on Power BI capability, including data modelling, Power Query, DAX, workspace governance, row-level security, refresh and usage monitoring.

• Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, especially Power Automate and Power Apps, and Microsoft 365 integration.

• Working knowledge of SQL, APIs, data quality, source-to-report lineage, identity/access and secure credential/service-account patterns.

• Practical understanding of generative AI/ML use cases, evaluation, prompting/instruction design, human oversight, responsible AI and data/privacy risk.

• Experience in business process mapping, requirements, UAT, change management, training and benefits realisation, relevant Microsoft or change-management certifications are advantageous.

• Experience with Datawarehouse especially Fabric/Azure experience is advantageous.

Communication and Product Mindset

• Ability to facilitate workshops, make complex concepts accessible and produce concise, decision-ready recommendations.

• Strong visual, analytical and storytelling judgement, avoids misleading charts, vanity metrics and unvalidated conclusions.

• Able to manage multiple products and stakeholders while protecting standards, controls, documentation and delivery focus.

• Ability to brief executives, guide technical responders and influence non-technical stakeholders.

• Fluent in written and spoken English and Chinese to communicate with stakeholders from Chinese-speaking markets.

Key Competencies

• Owns outcomes from discovery to adoption and retirement, not only development completion.

• Simplifies the process, controls and hand-offs before selecting or building technology.

• Tests definitions, lineage, completeness and interpretation before publishing insights.

• Experiments quickly within clear security, privacy, legal and human-oversight boundaries.

• Designs for usability, accessibility, training, adoption and sustainable support.

• Measures baseline and realized benefit, stops low-value work and favors reusable solutions.

• Refresh success, validated metrics, access accuracy, catalogue/lineage completeness and low defect recurrence.

• Run success, exception handling, supportability, controlled releases and reduction in manual errors/effort.

• Active use by target users, training completion, satisfaction, reduced workarounds and stakeholder acceptance.

• Measured time/cost savings, cycle-time improvement, risk reduction, revenue enablement or decision-quality improvement.

• Approved platforms/data, documented assessments, human controls, no unmanaged production solutions or material control breaches.

• Transparent priorities, predictable delivery, reusable patterns, lifecycle reviews and retirement of duplication.
