Job Description
About the Role
We are looking for a Business Development Intern to help grow our used cooking oil (UCO) collection network. You will identify and research new sources of UCO across the food and beverage industry, support outreach to schools, town councils, and community partners, and help build the pipeline of collection points that feeds our recycling operations.
This is a hands-on role with both commercial and environmental impact. You will work closely with the Business Development Manager, with exposure to market research, partnership development, and sustainability campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development and Lead Generation
- Identify and research new sources of used cooking oil, including:
- Restaurants
- Hawker centres
- Food courts
- Catering companies
- Hotels
- Food manufacturers
- Food processing facilities
- Build and maintain a database of potential UCO suppliers.
- Conduct market research on food chains and F&B businesses for partnership opportunities.
Community and Stakeholder Outreach
- Engage with schools, educational institutions, and town councils to explore UCO collection programmes.
- Support the development of sustainability and recycling initiatives with community stakeholders.
- Coordinate meetings, presentations, and follow-ups with prospective partners.
Social Media and Marketing Support
- Create and manage social media content related to sustainability, recycling, and UCO collection.
- Promote community engagement campaigns and collection drives.
- Assist in developing marketing materials, posters, and outreach content.
Upstream Supply Research
- Conduct research on food chains, restaurant groups, and potential large-volume UCO generators.
- Identify new market opportunities and strategic collection locations.
- Monitor industry trends and competitor activities.
Reporting and Data Management
- Track outreach activities and partnership progress.
- Prepare weekly reports on new leads, meetings, and opportunities identified.
- Maintain accurate records of contacts and collection point information.
Requirements
Education and Availability
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree in business, marketing, environmental studies, sustainability, or a related discipline.
- Available for a minimum commitment of 6 months.
Skills and Attributes
- Strong research skills and comfort working with spreadsheets and databases.
- Confident communicating with external stakeholders by phone, email, and in person.
- Clear written English for reports, outreach messages, and marketing content.
- Self-motivated and organised, able to manage multiple leads and follow-ups.
- Genuine interest in sustainability, recycling, and the circular economy.
Preferred
- Experience creating content for social media platforms.
- Familiarity with Singapore's F&B landscape, or with community and grassroots organisations.
- Conversational Mandarin or Malay for engaging hawker and food court operators.
