Job Summary
Read blueprints and instructions to assess surfaces and determine necessary painting work. Prepare and paint surfaces using appropriate tools and materials, ensuring quality finishes. Work safely on-site, including scaffolding and ladders, and manage costs and pricing.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and instructions to evaluate surface conditions and identify required painting tasks
- Prepare work sites by building scaffolding and covering fixtures to protect surrounding areas
- Prepare walls and surfaces by scraping, sanding, and removing old paint to ensure proper adhesion
- Fill cracks and holes with suitable materials such as plaster to create smooth surfaces
- Mix paint and materials to achieve the correct color and texture for each project
- Apply paint, varnish, and finishes accurately using brushes, caulking guns, and other tools according to instructions
- Calculate project costs and negotiate prices with clients or supervisors
- Follow all health and safety precautions to maintain a safe work environment
- Use manual dexterity and balance to work safely on scaffolding, ladders, and other elevated platforms
Required competencies and certifications
- Proven experience as a painter
- Excellent knowledge of painting materials and their selection, mixing, and application
- Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques
- Ability to work after regular hours, including weekends and public holidays if needed
- Flexibility to work any shift, including night and day shifts
- Aptitude in using appropriate painting tools such as brushes and caulking guns
- Manual dexterity and excellent balance for working on scaffolding and ladders
