Job Summary
Read blueprints and instructions to assess surfaces and determine the necessary painting work. Prepare surfaces by scraping, sanding, and removing old paint. Fill cracks and holes with appropriate materials. Mix paint and materials to achieve the correct color and texture. Apply paint, varnish, and finishes using various tools. Calculate costs and negotiate prices. Follow all health and safety precautions.
Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints and instructions to evaluate surface conditions and plan painting tasks accurately
- Prepare work sites by building scaffolding and covering fixtures to ensure safe and efficient painting operations
- Prepare walls and surfaces by scraping, sanding, and removing old paint to create a smooth base for painting
- Fill cracks and holes with plaster or other suitable materials to ensure even surfaces before painting
- Mix paints and materials precisely to achieve the required color and texture for each project
- Apply paint, varnish, and finishes using brushes, caulking guns, and other tools according to instructions
- Calculate project costs and negotiate prices with clients to support business objectives
- Adhere strictly to health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment
Required competencies and certifications
- Vocational Certificate from any discipline
- Proven experience as a painter demonstrating knowledge of painting materials and techniques
- Ability to work outside regular hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays as needed
- Manual dexterity and excellent balance to work safely on scaffolding and ladders
- Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques
- Aptitude in selecting, mixing, and applying painting materials using appropriate tools
- Conscientiousness with great attention to detail
