Job Summary
Read blueprints and instructions to assess surfaces and determine the scope of painting work needed. Prepare surfaces by scraping, sanding, and removing old paint to ensure proper adhesion. Mix paint and materials to achieve the correct color and texture. Apply paint, varnish, and finishes using appropriate tools to meet quality standards. Build scaffolding and cover fixtures to protect the work area. Calculate costs and negotiate prices with clients. Follow all health and safety precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Assess surfaces by reading blueprints and inspecting conditions to plan painting work accurately
- Prepare walls and surfaces by scraping, sanding, and removing old paint to ensure smooth application
- Fill cracks and holes with suitable materials such as plaster to create even surfaces
- Mix paint and other materials to achieve the correct color and texture for each project
- Apply paint, varnish, and finishes using brushes, caulking guns, and other tools according to instructions
- Build and dismantle scaffolding and cover fixtures to protect the work area and ensure safety
- Calculate project costs and negotiate prices with clients to meet budget requirements
- Follow all health and safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment
- Work flexibly across shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays as required
Required competencies and certifications
- Proven experience as a painter
- Excellent knowledge of painting materials and their selection, mixing, and application
- Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques
- Aptitude in using painting tools such as brushes and caulking guns
- Manual dexterity and balance to work safely on scaffolding and ladders
- Conscientiousness with great attention to detail
